As the title states, with quality AR15s at around the $399 mark (and that doesn't even seem to be rock bottom yet) it got me thinking, is there anyone left that doesn't already have at least one?

Cheers.

I don't currently have one anymore but I did just buy a stripped lower receiver to put together eventually. On my scale of 1-10 of how interesting a gun is to me an AR-15 is about a 2. The only reason I decided to build one is when I was a kid I thought M16A2's were really cool looking so I want to put together an A2 lookalike. Don't know if I will keep it. Probably not.

Other than a retro style rifle like Fulton Armory offers I've never really had interest in them. Too many other cool designs out there just to buy what everyone else has and what you see at the range every day. That and some of the folks who are more vocal about how the AR15 is the ultimate rifle and anything else is garbage just turn me away from the design.

I used them in the service but was not impressed due to old worn out rifles and exposure to the awful .22 LR conversion kits that the military used at the time. I also hated cleaning the things as the MTU guys would shoot them all week and make the reservists doing annual qualifiers clean the rifles.

Fast forward to twenty years later--fired my FIL's 7.62x40 and liked it. Ended up rediscovering them by building one. Subsequent health issues and problems with range access for shotgun practice led me to revise home defense plan to use the AR.

I have one or more but I really do not think they are worth all the hype ,they are to me just a fun plinker , the one I do enjoy is my old school A2 20in rifle,

I had to work on the dang things in the Army. I have an AK; it requires much less maintenance. To paraphrase SGM Plumley, "If I need an AR, there will be plenty laying about."

I built one shortly after I got out, but rarely shot it, couldn't hunt with it (in MN at the time) so right before the Klinton Ban went into effect, I sold it at a gun show for several times what I had into it. I'm not totally against them, if they keep dropping, I just might pick one up. My son has one, uses it for deer hunting.

How is not owning an AR15 irresponsible?
Didn't mean to pull anyone's chain, but I think ownership is at one level a political statement. The Constitution enumerates a right that I think is also a responsibility. As a parent, I have a responsibility to instruct my children in the safe and proper use of firearms. If they subsequently choose not to own guns, that's their choice. But I fulfilled my responsibility as a parent. Likewise, if others choose not to own an AR15, that is their choice. But to me, it is a responsible thing to do. As ARs are not really my thing, my ownership of one is a principled position rather than an interest-driven choice. Again, no offense intended; other's may choose differently.

I believe right now is the time to buy one. You can get a good new one for less than a AK and slightly more than a SKS ($400 range). 10 years ago when W was POTUS $750 for a DPMS M4gery was considered a decent deal.

I don't have one. They were never really my thing, but I was starting to think I might get one "just because." Then our governor, Andrew "Il Duce" Cuomo, rammed the "SAFE" Act through the legislature and down our throats. I don't want one badly enough to endure the NY-legal abominations, so for now I'll just be content with my Saiga, Mini-14, SKS, and Garand.

Not gonna lie. I love the platform because of the low cost of entry and the sheer variety of accessories and modifications available. I have two and am about to build another because I have leftover parts with no home.

I bought the one I own in 2015, more as what I call an "anti-political" investment, kind of an "up yours" to those that would deprive me of the right. I figured I'd make a shooter of it, and stocked up on ammo, but never actually fired it.

About a year later, I went through the same thing with the one AKM I own.

They'll get shot this summer (I did say that last summer, though!)

Never had one or wanted one. Nothing against them but for some reason they never caught my eye. My interest in firearms runs to traditional (revolvers, mil-surp bolt action rifles, SxS shotguns) or historic replicas (muzzleloaders and other black powder guns). The only semis I care about are for SD carry. Of course, that leaves more ARs for the rest of you.

I like the "Lego" design of the AR-15. While I have an M4gery, it does not ring by bell and rarely gets shot.

But, my long, heavy barrel varmint AR-15s that I assembled in 17 Remington, 204 Ruger, and 22x6.8 are a different story.

Shooting Service Rifle Competition, first against AR-15s and then with an AR15 really changed my opinion on the capability of the rifle when properly prepared even by a home enthusiast.

I was preparing to buy one last Oct., just because. If I do get one now, it will be built from parts- but it seems like the parts prices have not come down as much as the ready made rifles.

There isn't a poll response for me. I have had three and traded them all for guns I wanted more. I might pick one up again, but then I'm likely to trade it off, if the trade is in my favor.

Very interesting seeing some bought basically because the government doesn't want you to have them.

Well, you don't have one.... and it doesn't sound like they interest you. These threads can't possibly cover every situation but one of the answers is pretty close.

BTW, apropos for those wanting one, CDNN DPMS Oracle complete rifle is $399 for memorial day. They also have cheap shipping. I believe your choice of Ruger or S&W entry line AR is $499 That is less than a new Glock.

Your poll needs an "Other" or "None of the above" option.

Technically, I don't. I bought ARs for my sons during 2015/2016, but I will be carrrying my 181-series Ruger Minit-14 until I am too old and feeble to lift it. After being my primary magazine-fed semiautomatic center-fire rifle for 37 years, I've kind of grown attached to it.
