I've seen almost a dozen of these at varoius gunshops around here in the past few months. Not knowing what they were I just thought that they were a funny looking rifle.

I finally picked one up two of them tonight,looked them over closely,one was a .35 Remington,the other,a .300 Savage.Those suckers looked new!
The 300 Savage was $400 ,the 35 Rem version[which had nicer wood]$500.

Imagine my suprise when, after a little Googling,I found out that they were a minimum of 54 years old!& that it was a J.M.Browning design!

I admit to being curious-bordering on fascination.

Or,maybe I need to get out more.:uhoh:

Anyone to a good link of the hows, whys,& why nots of the Remington 81?

Here's a recent thread I started about them.

I got a very nice condition 1936 Remington Model 81 in .30 Rem for a little under $300. I was also able to track down some commercially-loaded ammo off the internet, which should be arriving any day now. I'm also getting the stuff necessary to reload for it, but doubt I'll have time to work up handloads before going after Bambi (all my spare time is spent in a duck blind or chasing pheasants).

If the thing shoots anywhere near as well as my Winchester 94 30-30, then I'll be taking it to deer camp in a few weeks.

Thank you Trapper! After reading that I think I found my christmas present!

Now the question?Do I go for the 35 Rem or the 300 Savage?
Decisions,decisions.

Oh well,who needs an AR anyways.:scrutiny: :D.

It's odd though,when I tried to "search"all I recv'd was a blank,white page,Hmmm.

Yeah, with the search function, I don't think it likes anything with less than 3 characters. For example, a search for "81" wouldn't work, but "223" would.

As far as the caliber, I'd have prefered one in .35 Rem, but took what I could get.

soon as I find a really decent model 81 in 300 savage will buy it....I have been looking for a really good one for over a year now....found some but were not the caliber I was looking for...........30 or 35 rem........
