I do not have any duplicates at this time; were my budget somewhat more generous I would have duplicates - perhaps triplicates - of several outstanding pieces.

It makes sense from the standpoint of practice. If you have two of your favorite carry pistols for example, you can pick the best shooter for business, and shoot the the other to pieces in practice and drills.

The same could be said for long guns whether they be for protection or for hunting. All firearms, even the best designs produced of the best materials with superior fabrication and fitting, have finite lives. Be it several thousand or a hundred thousand rounds.

Sure there are plenty of examples of some that go around the 100K clock more than once with only minor parts replacement. But personally, I would rather carry a piece that has proven reliable with a few thousand rounds than one with 10,000 or more rounds through it. A catastrophic failure is an irritation or inconvenience on a firing range. Much more than that if your life is on the line.

Not really ... at least not in the way you are asking. I have two Mossberg 500 12 gauges, but they are set up with different barrels. Other than that, all "one of a kind" by your definition ...

... except for a matched pair of Uberti 1848 Colt Second Model Dragoons! :D

Three Bulgarian Makarovs.

A pair of Taurus Gaucho revolvers in .45 Colt.

Three 1911's, a full-sized Sistema, a Colt Commander, and a Springfield Ultra Compact, all in .45 ACP.

Two 9mm Glocks, a G17 and a G26.

Two S&W J-frames, a 642 and a 37.

Two S&W K-frames, a 64 and a 19.

Two 10/22s.

Three Marlin lever actions, an 1894, a 336, and a 39.

Two SMLEs, an Ishapore and a Jungle Carbine.

Everything else is unique. :D

I think all of the above except for they are all unique.

I can't really reply to the poll because I don't understand which one I am.

I have several AK's in 7.62x39mm, a few in .308, one in 5.56X45mm and one in 12 gauge.

I also have several SKS's and Mosins Nagants in there original caliber. I also have several break action shotguns in many different gauges.

Not sure how to answer the poll but I think the answer is yes.

Not at this time, but maybe once I get one of every gun that I want, I'll work on duplicates. The problem is that when I get close to the end of that list, I keep finding more that I want.

I've got 10 or a dozen of a couple types, but I've got a C&R so I don't think that really counts.

My first rifle a Browning Grade 1 TD 22lr in walnut and blued steel.
Early this year I found a mint Browning grade 1 TD 22lr -The gray Laminated 2004 shot show special. sitting all nice and quiet on the rack. (my case queen)

I have a pair of EMF Great Western II birdshead 357mag with consecutive serial numbers I have a Hartford model lever in 357 with a 20" barrell and just order a second with a round barrell in 357 both stainless.

Lets see....

2 AR-15s - Different configurations but same ammo
2 Glocks - 9mm and 45acp. Same manufacturer, different ammo
2 Yugo SKS - They are cheap, couldn't help myself (actually the second SKS is a "parts" gun for the first one that just happens to be in a cleaned and assembled state waiting to have all it's parts tested :D ).

I definitely see a trend here.

Which reminds me. I am due for another 1911 to pair up with my Kimber.

Edited for spelling

I have several multiples, but most differ slightly in some detail (e.g. bbl length, finish type, sight options, generation, safety options, etc.)

My only TRUE duplicates are my two CZ 452 Ultra Lux Rifles. :D

I think it can never hurt to have as many guns of all kinds as possible!:D  Seriously though, I think it is very practical to have a duplicate of your carry gun for sure. Right now I am trying to decide which of my guns to keep for Home/Self Defense and carry and which not to, as I am going to put most of my gun and knife collection in storage for safekeeping because it has become too much of an investment not to care for in the best most secure way possible. Clearly I need a defensive pistol shotgun and rifle as well as a backup gun. As far as a rifle I can't decide between my Ruger Mini 14 or my custom built AR. I like the Mini because it is so easy to clean and up close I think it beats the AR for good bullet placement, but accuracy suffers greatly at distance and the AR has all those Rails to hand lights and lasers on. I may keep my good old Winchester 94 .30.30 around too in case I need something heavier than 5.56 but mostly just to shoot for fun because I don't hunt (I support hunting and think it is one of the great American traditions and I love venison, I just don't like to kill anything myself unless it tries to kill me first or if I need to protect my animals or if I am really hungry and flat broke hehehehe:D ) and I think lever guns are some of the most fun rifles to shoot in the world. Give me a lever gun and a double barell 12ga coach gun and some ammo and I'll have a ball. For a pistol I am debating between my G22 and Beretta 92fs Brigadier INOX with the Glock probably in the lead because I shoot it well and trust it and for a backup my m627 taurus and my Sig P230 with the Taurus in the lead because even though it is heavier and harder to conceal I like having the option of 7 shots of .357 or .38 and a couple of 7 shot speedloaders of each and plus for a DAO revolver I absolutely love the trigger which is short and not at all sloppy but instead crisp and clean, and for my shotgun I have settled on my good old Winchester Defender with 7 shot tube and wood furniture. Can't beat a scattergun for in home. My buddy said "well if you have all that then the only thing you are missing is a sniper rifle" but if I did have one I would have it stored because I just can't see myself as a citizen needing to snipe someone for self defense seeing as how there is no such thing as a justified self defense sniper shooting (DUH.) He is right though a good Sniper rifle would round out my otherwise very nice and fairly complete collection. Any philanthropists looking to give away a high dollar sniper setup feel free to mail it to me directly hehehehehe! I'll gladly give you my address and even pay the shipping. Hey, I'm a generous guy! Can't really make my mind up what I am going to keep yet but I am getting there. Think I will set up some targets tomorrow and do some "testing" just for the fun of it if nothing else hehe. At any rate I somehow got off topic here and I'm rambling now so I will just go ahead and shut up now. Sorry bout that.

Many:

I've a 1903 MKI and a 1903. Three 1911's in .45 ACP. Two 1911's in 10MM.

Two S&W K22's 6" barrels. Two S&W 29's with 6" barrels. Two S&W Model 57's with 4" barrels...and a Model 57 stainless with a 21/2" barrel.

Three Mausers. Two Wingmasters.

"Two is one and one is none." I read that the other day while looking at a double gun shoulder rig. Wonder who said it? Whoever it was it's not a bad motto.

My grampa asked me why I have two Garands. I told him, "cuz I ain't been able to get three yet!"

well i have two smith 27-2s five inch , but one is a s prefix and the other is n prefix, i also have a 4 inch 27-2 ....so i guess i dont have two of the same guns, but im on the look out! *csa*:what:

I went with multiples of the same class, but I do have a few total duplicates and a few identical makes except in caliber. For instance I've a pair of Star BM because I liked it, they are out of production, spare parts are iffy, and the price was low enough it wasn't painful to buy an extra as a spare. I liked the XD9 so much I went out and got one in .45ACP. But 1911s are the backbone of my collection I've many variations and 9mm and .40S&W versions as well.

Duplicate guns

I try to buy two of each when I buy new. You see I have two wonderful sons 27 & 23. We shoot most all the firearms I own. When I die there will be no fighting over guns. I hope my sons will past them on to there sons. :)
Yes I have more than some & less than others.:neener:

2 Model 10s

2 Winchester 1300s

3 Mausers

2 Enfields

I did not start out purposely looking for duplicates it just sort of turned out that way.

Somehow I fell in love with Rmington's "Nylon" series... I have about 2 dozen in the series, and most are "66" variants...

I can't pass one up... gotta get all I can...

Also, I have 5 or 6 custom Mauser actioned Sporters... in various calibers.

I have 2 Win. Mod. 70s in .270,1 W/a K 4 scope and 1 W/ a Leupold 3-9.
I also have 2 Stainless Ruger Vaqueros in .45 Long Colt.
Two Ruger Single 6s W/ .22 & .22 WM cyl.
Several Win. Mod. 94s but only 2 in .30-30 cal.
