Been awhile since we did a fun survey, so here goes.....

First boo boo (I'm sure there will be more): I forgot about the H&K VP70, which predated the P7 by several years, but seriously, who would vote for THAT thing?

I purposefully left out the Walther P38 since the Model 6 was actually their first 9mm Para. pistol- and a terrible one at that.

If anyone really, really wants to vote for the Astra A600, Lahti, or some other weird pistol I will add it......:)

Best first attempt no contest: Glock 17.

I don’t own one, but the long term success and market share among civilian, military, and law enforcement users worldwide is hard to ignore.

For me it's got to be the Hi-Power (if you'll excuse the pun), hands down! The size and contours of that double stack frame are perfect for my smaller size hand. Some other designs have come close but the Hi-Power is still, to me, best on the first try!

BHP is my choice but the G17 is probably equal to it.

Steel firearms are like art in my eyes and I like them better than plastic firearms , but with the popularity of the Glock 17 & 19 around the world , I will vote Glock .

Glock changed the handgun industry with a polymer frame when it came out . There are a lot of firearm companies that have caught up and IMO a few that make a better polymer frame pistol , but they set the bar .

I will add that I am more a 1911 and revolver person . I only own 1 Glock and it is not 9mm .

Definition of Pioneer: develop or be the first to use or apply (a new method, area of knowledge, or activity): "he has pioneered a number of innovative techniques"

Let's not give credit to Glock for something they didn't pioneer, their recognized achievement was the introduction of a polymer frame. Luger and Browning were the real pioneers in 9mm handguns. All the rest simply copied and improved on the trail others had blazed.

BHP, well executed, DS mag, great ergos, beautiful design in a firearm, all steel.

Glock just does not check off enough of those boxes for me.

    Glock 17

All 3 have stood the test of time and can/does take the Pepsi challenge with the current designs and hold their own. I could vote for either of these 3 and feel vindicated.

The Glock don't feel as good in my hand as the other 2. The CZ feels the best and I shoot it the best but I looooove the looks of the BHP.

I'm gonna any mini miney more between those 2. BHP it is.

Truth. Yet I still voted the Glock 17.

The BHP trigger and mag safety were just such bad defects I cannot truly love my BHP. That and the slide bite I get every time.

So, yeah, I let personal bias in.

With all due respect to JMB......
Glock was thinking out of the box, and created a wildly popular line of pistols.

That was my thinking. And look at the army of copies it has spawned. Every new gun to the market seems to yearn to be this years "Glock Killer".

The Hi Power. Yet in these times the G17 was-is a pistol that has shifted what the past designs were. The HK squeeze thing is great too though from a mass production level that continues, not so. The Glock in my mind.

The VP70 actually had a poly frame years before the Glock, but they got everything else wrong, lol.

Hi-Power for sure; the first 9mm to use the double-column, more comforting capacity magazine. The first modern 9mm, and as one member said first:

I voted BHP but I am biased. Dieudonné Saive took JMBs last design and made one of the finest combat pistols ever made. There is a lot of JMB in the gun but IMHO it is really Dieudonné Saive's design.

Or you do a side by side comparison and realize they are far more similar than dissimilar.

There are lots of guns I admire and respect, but don't own simply because the numbers don't add up and at the end of the day, I need the best tool for the job at the best cost.

    Hence no BHPs or 1911s.

Beautiful MKII! The BHP is the best 9mm double stack ever made.
