Who Makes the Best Falcata Copy?

What do you mean by "best"? Most authentic looking may not be the best performing, may not be the best looking, may not be the best value, etc.

I would get a long HI Sirupati and re-handle it in the style of a kopis if I wanted a true user of a weapon. Many of the repros that I have seen are too heavy to be real fighters.

The sirupati has a profile very similar to the narrower Greek style kopis than the shorter and broader Iberian falcata.

It would be a small matter to have a blacksmith weld and bend (with proper heat sink of course) a short rod to the tang of the HI sirupati that you could then handle (or have handled) to your liking.

falcata

generation 2, period. historically accurate, COMPLETELY FUNCTIONAL(lopping off heads, arms, etc.) they're high carbon spring steel and subjected to serious testing. sharp and beautiful. got mine at imperial weapons for $155 good luck.

Wow...I just took a look at the Generation Two Falcata - that thing looks awesome :D

I'm sure it will end up on my list of stuff I really, really need :)

Take care,

ONE MORE thing..., Cold Steel makes a "Kopis" and a "Khukri" machete, which are only a few inches shorter in blade length than the Generation 2 Falcata. The Cold Steel blades are 18 oz. and are the right shape, while the Generation 2 Falcata weighs 6 oz. more. I suspect that the heavier blade is needed, or am I all wrong?

heavier blade is needed

Yeah right, get to the gym! :p

Methinks that back then there wasn't much distinction between the 18 oz versus the 24 oz, or the 19 inch blade versus the 21 inch blade.. remember, mass production took a while to reach the ancient world  and when it was two days' walk to the next town, uniformity in such matters was not all that common.

Theoretically (me a nursing student playing the physics guessing game) you would have to swing a lighter falcata/kopis/khukri faster to get the same impact and cut. But it sounds to me like we've finally unearthed the origins of the 9mm/45acp debate :)
