Could someone post load data for me? I need to cross check some loads. It's .223 (.224) Hornady 75 gr BTHP, using Varget. Min. and Max charge, OAL and velocities would be great.

SnakeEater,
According to the Lyman 48th Edition Reloading Handbook:

75 grain A-Max is listed at 2.390" AOL.
Varget 23.0 grns starting with 2606 fps.
Max load is 25.6 grns at 2,843 fps.

They also list a 77 grn JHPBT at 2.260" OAL
Varget 22.5 at 2591 fps to25.0+ (indicates a compressed charge) at 2,788 fps.

The 77 grain is a Sierra, The A-Max obviously is a Hornady.

Hope this helps,

Hmm, thank you both for posting. I am getting conficting data on max loads. I fired some today loaded with 23.6 grs that did just fine but "felt" mildly hot. Hodgdon says 25.0gr is max, the site just posted says 23.5 max.

Thank you fellas. It appears to me that the Hornady manual may be a little too conservative. The link that mc223 gave shows 24.4gr as a service rifle load. I believe I'll duplicate that load and try it out.

My loads for long range (500-600 yards) for Highpower are a 75 gr A-Max on top of 24.5 grains of Varget. These are seated out to 2.420" and have to be single loaded as they exceed magazine length.
If you know someone with a StoneyPoint gauge you can measure your chamber to seat them out. Otherwise if you are using them X-course you will want to seat to magazine length.

The load for the 75 BTHP has proven to be a good one. Most of the Highpower Guys use 24g. It is for mag length seating. If you wanted to seat these out further you could increase the powder charge, but in my experences the 75 BTHP does not perform as well when the jump is too short. More than .030 jump has proven best with these.
I run 25.5g Varget with mollied A-Max seated .010 off the lands in a Wylde chamber for single loading.
