Ran across this site while searching on Google. http://www.courter.org/guns/index.html Nice collection, but I don't see the wisdom in broadcasting the fact that three small deadbolts are all that protect this collection (well, in the pics anyway...this guy might have a moat, alarm, motions sensors, big dog, etc.).

Which brings me to my question...

Instead of a "Show me your guns" thread, this is a "Why don't you show me your guns?" thread. Are others like me in that they don't like everyone to know what they own? Or am I just paranoid?

The contents of my collection shift around too much to do a page like that.

If you want to climb the wire and shoot your way past the guards & dogs to take 'em, be my guest. ;)

Yes, you probably are paranoid. But like you, I'm reticent to post pictures or running inventories of what I own.

Count me in the paranoid category too. :uhoh:

I don't post complete listings of everything I have, but I do like talking about some of them. Everyone that knows me is aware I have a bunch of guns, but they also know I have safes, animals, monitored alarms, neighborhood watch and any other deterent I can come up with. I also make sure they know I have a C&R FFL, which means its a federal crime to go for my guns, so not just the local Barney Fife will be chasing a thief.

I have my tin foil hat firmly planted. And NO, I will not divulge whether I have 1 BB gun or 2.

    I am not paranoid.

I just don't allow strangers into my home.

Even though I am like most folks in these here forums, you all are still strangers.

It would be asking a woman whom you barely know, how many sex partners she has had, or if she has
    any STDs.

It's just, none of your business!

I use to think the same way. Then I realized enough people know what I have that it really doesn't matter if I advertise or not. Plus, it's a pride of ownership thing too.

Probably not a good idea to post your firearms inventory on an open forum, unless using a screen name that can't be traced.

Even then, most of us openly discuss our guns with others, so a search on our ID, can give a pretty good idea to anyone interested.

My guns are protected by a safe bolted to the structure, and our dogs (doberman and pit bull) alert us to any intrusions, and would probably greet any stranger with less then friendly enthusiasm. :D

I say probably, because we have never found a live intruder in our home to ask. :D ;)

What does it matter if you show your collection like that? If you are paranoid about the government looking for them, all that have to do is look up the purchase records. Anyone who wants to break in and steal that collection.....well they just might have to get pass that collection just to break in.

Displayed on his own web page might not be the best idea in the world. It only took a few secs. to determine his name, address and phone number. ;) Besides, he needs to get a bigger room if he wants to do some serious investing.

I would challenge anyone here to, find out how many firearms I own, based any info you may able to gather from these forums or other.

It has nothing to do with paranoia, it is the state of our communities that sets the tone for my reluctance to divulge information I consider private. Some would call it, mindset condition (YELLOW).

I think a lot folks just want to show off their material goods, I am not a materialistic person, so I don't think that way.

I have never been impressed, with another mans possesions.

Having a lot of money or possesions, doesn't make them a better person, or a more honest person, or a more loyal person.

It is the scum of the earth, that posses the most. Drug lords, dictators, politicians, and of course the worst of the worst international bankers.

So, mind your own, and I will mind mine.

I don't mind listing calibers, but lists of firearms or numbers of firearms or explicit storage information seem like too much information.

The government does not have a clue what I own. They may know what I have purchased, but private sales are legal here, and what I have on paper is not expected to be an acurate inventory of what I own. I am not paranoid of them, just pointing out that they don't know everything, and I ain't giving a hand.

From the looks of the "vault" the gentleman on that website is using, a good shoulder would be all that is required to gain entry. I would definitely not advertise that on the World Wide Web. Looks like an invitation from here.

    Paranoia is an acquired trait.

No way am I going to tell the world what I don't think is any of its business.

Sure, I post on here on my new "toys", but that pretty much is the extent of things.

I'm more concerned with individuals in the neighborhood than intenet thugs. But then all the individuals in my neighborhood see me in my uniform prior to going to work. I'm sure that has deterred more than one potential idiot.

It's simple to them...they steal my guns or harm my family and I WILL see you again. They know that and I don't think they want to chance it. :D

I enjoy digital photography so I've posted pictures of various firearms here and there. However, I've never posted pictures or a detail listing of all my firearms.

On the other hand, if an individual wishes to break into my residence and he succeeds in stealing my collection, he's one amazing thief ;)

That is what insurance is for. Suggest you get a personal article policy (PAP) and insure your firearms for replacement value. Yes, I work for an insurance company!

    Just a suggestion

    waterdog,

You're family since you're part of the TFL/THR fraternity, so I'll tell you like I'd tell a brother:

There is enough info and enough technology via reverse DNS lookups, IP trace tools, and so on, that unless you're using an anonymous browser, it is very feasible to pinpoint your location.

Once the address is gotten, it's simply a matter of checking city and county records for all the legal FFL transfers and purchases you've made.
And that's without finding any additional nuggets of info in the process.

Gunshows, face-to-face deals, and bartered transactions notwithstanding, I'd encourage you NOT to issue that kind of challenge on an internet forum.

    Don't stir up the pirates.

    Waterdog,

I know you're going to find this whacked, but a lot of us here (are you ready for this?) like guns!

    *gasp*

Because we like guns, we like talking to other people who like guns.

Because we all like guns, we like telling our fellow gun-likers about the new gun we saw that we liked so much that we bought it.

Far-fetched, I know, but ponder it for a while.

I have posted one picture on TFL.
I didn't give any listing otherwise.
I encourage everyone to stick to private sales and leave no trace of where they came from or where they went.
