BUMP!

Haven't seen this one for a while, and we have a RAFT of new folks. Since I plugged this one in a Library reference, I thougt we could use a broader spectrum of our membership. I'd particularly like to hear from some of the folks who joined up in the last year or so.

So what impresses YOU about this place? Lets hear it.

I'll bite...

I started as a newbie looking for firearms info.

I de-lurked...well, I can't remember why. Probably as a prelude to asking a bunch of stupid questions. ;)

Top Ten Reasons I'm hanging around:

10) Civility. This place actually expects us to deal with each other with a reasonable amount of courtesy and respect. Enjoyable, especially compared to the decline of these things in American society today.

9) Fantastic moderators. Far too many places go to extremes one way or the other. Either you agree with everything the In Crowd believes, or you're nuked; or any wild-eyed schizophrenic can barf insults and abuse at everyone and everything and no one does squat. THR Moderators walk that fine--and not easy--line between allowing freedom of expression and knowing when someone's just being a jerk.

8) Nightcrawler's got me hooked on his dang gunrunner serial.

7) Information. You know...the thing that led me here in the first place. After a couple of months here, I'm so well versed in Logistically Tactical Combat Weaponry Knowledge that I could conquer a couple of Third World countries armed only with a toothpick and a stale bagel! :D

6) A lot of very interesting, stereotype-breaking people. I intend to send some liberal friends to read some of the posts. "See? I'm not the only gun owner that quotes Monty Python!"

5) Waiting for Skunkabilly to post pictures of his Uber-Tactical Carbon Fiber Toothbrush.

4) The masochistic side of me just can't get enough of trying to explain the libertarian philosophy to die-hard Rebublican dogmatists.

3) "My Gun/Caliber Can Beat Up Your Gun/Caliber" threads more entertaining than Jerry Springer, Judge Judy, or even Crossfire.

2) Because I've found guns are more addicting than tattoos.

And the Number One reason I hang out here is...

1) To bug the :cuss: out of people by making their serious question thread into a Letterman "Top 10 List" parody!!! :evil: :neener:
 
Fan of Oleg Volk.... lurk all over the place at various RKBA boards and was a frequent poster on one in particular till it shut down... run my own and appreciate anyplace where civility is a matter of course...
 
I come to THR because I can learn from a lot of people
and for me this is one of the best places.
People here are happy to help with anything that I ask.
one more time thanks to everybody from top to bottom.;)

Add #1 and #2 and you get a great place to learn stuff.

Diverse views and knowledge in a wide range of topics. Other boards don't stimulate critical thinking, too narrowly pro this or anti that. Some exceptional minds here that test my views for me. An as yet unsurpassed wealth of firearms knowledge.

I learn more here than anywhere else on the net. Tanks to all.;) :D

Eventually, I will get convinced I need that .45-70 Ruger 12" barrelled revolver I saw. Lord help me if I do.:eek: :uhoh:
 
I forget right now if I responded first time around ... but, no matter ... Samurai Penguin has it pretty well sewn up .. :p

One major thing that strikes me ... and it increases over time ... is that (in a cyber sense I guess) there is one heck of a great extended family here. We are by and large all on the same page ... and there is a fascinating and invaluable interplay of both raw fact, knowledge thru experience and ... opinion.

I posted a ''thank you'' thread just the other day ... HERE .. might seem a bit ''huggy-kissy'' ... all warm fuzzies etc ... but I tell you what .. there are many people here who freely give of their time to add information of enormous value to others. There is hardly a question that can be put on this board that will not eventually get a useful answer.!

That is priceless .... added to which we are moderated extraordinarily well overall - and, ''The High Road'' is indeed just that .... I wonder actually if Oleg originally knew just how great this baby of his would become.
 
I love being associated with good people.
Learning, and sharing thoughts is great.
Also, if I'm going to be illegally monitored (by Big Brother), compliments of GWB's USA (un)Patriot ACT, I'd want it to be with all you wonderful people.

Have you ever read Spider Robinsons yarns about Callahan's cross time saloon? Same comfort level.

Comeraderie is part of it, and being able to see myths destroyed with the ex-antis, Pink Pistols and the likes of Tamara and the other ladies here. Absolutely awesome.

Great to be able to communicate with mature, self secure people. Sure there are some extremists here, but they toe the lline as well. (Had to add that because I don't want to let ultra liberals totally off the hook.... Just kidding.)
 
For lots of the reasons already mentioned.

And because watching the leftists flounder here makes me laugh until I almost wet my pants.

Too bad Alpha (male) Gore didn't invent the internet sooner. It's a real hoot!
 
I was looking for info and opinions on RKBA issues.


I was once anti, but gradually (and less gradually) converted over the past few years.

I was just cruising the web, looking for good pro and anti arguments, to help me make an informed decission, followed a few links and eventually found my way here. (Never found any good anti sites, though).
