Why can't I find a reasonably priced, compact 9mm 1911?

Why don't you look at John Brownings improvement on the 1911, the Browning P 35 Hi-Power

I suppose that is why dang near every pistol manufacture is rushing out to make copies of them to right??..................Oh wait...............There not!

So Browning himself was wrong? Go do some historical research on John Browning.

There are many .38 Supers floating around these days, both new and used. Any one of those can be converted over to 9mm easily, and for less than the cost of a new custom.

hate to do this.

Hey there:
I guess I will have look harded. I thought that just about all the improvements that could be done to the 1911s have already been done. The one thing that I am pretty sure of though is that the High Power was not the answer. These were very well made and nothing wrong with them, but I really think that it is strecthing things some to sugest that they were ment to replace the 1911s as an improved weapon. They recoil more and do not carry the womp of the .45 acp. I have both , but would never consider that High Power for a carry weapon.

Springfield made a no frills Govt. size 1911 awhile back in 9mm and used ones go for about $350.

Used Colts go for about $600. The newer makes and models are pricier than that as you have stated.

Compact ones are going to be very hard to find.

Well said.

Surprised nobody has mentioned the Taurus 24/7 in 9mm. Fits the poster's size and price requirements... and not bad accuracy. Bought one for my daughter a couple years ago and she's still enamored with it. Never a FTF or FTE. IMHO its trigger is too heavy... but tha's just me.
