Why CCW?

I applaud all of you that feel it is necessary to carry a conceled firearm. I don't. I also think you are pissing into the wind if you think that you won't be the first to get the visit from the law when things go upside down. Actually I have never purchased a firearm using the fed form.Almost all of my firearms were purchased well before the GCA 68. I don't own many and the ones I do own are primarily hunting guns not handguns. I do live in an open carry state and when I do feel that I need a firearm my 870 is both legal and far more lethal than any handgun I know of. Mostly though I simple stay out of the high risk areas. My primary weapon is both conceled and deadly its my brain. Good luck to all of you. And when your sitting in the barb wire hotel tell me how nice it was to have a CCW and how nice the GVT is. FRJ

Well, FRJ, I sure don't know what to say to that. I wasn't alive to purchase firearms before 1968, so that kind of leaves me out in the cold. I don't live in a very dangerous area, but the need to defend myself could arise 'most anywhere, so I do choose to carry a sidearm with me. And a long-arm really isnt' convienient nor practical for those uses. (You want to get a cop's attention? Forget about the concealed handgun, walk into a mall with your 870. But, then, no-one gets shot in malls, right? RIGHT?)

I carry a handgun for the same reason I have insurance or wear a seat belt. You never know when or how something bad might happen and it pays to be at least somewhat prepared. In most states, getting your CCW or LCTF is the price of admission to doing so legally, and I follow the law assiduously. So what I'm on yet another list? The benefits I reap today and every day, are worth the miniscule threat that there might someday be black helicopters circling my house.

(Especially as, if there really ever was that kind of tyrranical crackdown, you and I would have been both herded into the pens long before they even got to the CCW lists -- or should have stood up and resisted even before that.)

I don't plan to spend time behind bars -- certainly not because I had a CCW and they "rounded me up."

I really don't understand why you started this thread. To brag that you don't exercise your rights? To come on a public forum and yell about how the government can't find you?

Yeah. CCW isn't for you, I guess. Sorry.

-Sam

FRJ tell us how well you think you will enjoy those off the book guns if the day you fear comes and you can't fire them anymore lest you end up behind the barbed wire with the rest of us.
I believe strongly that things can and likely will go a little haywire during what will be the rest of my life. (hopefully 30-50 yrs.) But I will live them out wary and not fearful of the government.

mcdoni the only people I know that own firearms are not dumb enough to trust the gvt. with their absolute right given by GOD to self defense. They sure are not criminals just smart people that dont trust the GVT.

Ok guys lets stop it, he is here for one reason. Stop feeding the troll.

His abbreviations and such also indicate youth. Just let this one die.

FRJ, we look forward to you joining us in the "barb wire" hotel. After all, if the evil minions of the government monitor CCW permit holders, you can pretty well bet that they monitor internet forums as well. You've tipped your hand, and the authorities are now aware of the fact that you're sitting on a pile of unpapered sniper rifles and shotguns.

You're on the list now, buddy!

I have seen many things posted on the internet, including here, which causes me to wonder if the poster is aware of all that he is revealing.

By my being here and posting I know I have revealed at least an interest in guns, and that I probably own one. ...or two.

In the state that I come from you are definately not looked on as a good guy if you have a CCW. It is tied to the licence plate on your car and if you are stopped you may be approached in a felony arrest mode rather than a simple traffic stop.
What state do you live in?
Never mind a simple internet search turned you your home state is OR.

A search of THR turned up that you own at least two Brownings and as stated above a Remington 870. I assume the 300 win mag that cut the coyote in half is a Browning as well as your 270.

Yes you never tell the gov't about your guns... I mean unless they search one of the largest firearms forums on the internet. How's all that security treating you now?

there are many reasons that i ccw, as far as "big brother" finding me...

there is one huge reason why i am not worried about them using a CCW to find me....
i am in the military it is not and would not be hard for them to find me.

Pshh... no one uses the Internet. Your information is safe here.

LOL... besides, the government has a better chance of finding your data on a public Internet forum then in one of their databases!!

Actually, CCW means Concealed Carry of Deadly Weapons. It doesn't just apply to firearms.
It does in Ohio. An Ohio Concealed Handgun License (CHL) is just that, a HANDGUN license. It authorizes you to carry a concealed handgun. Not a knife, not a baton, not a sickle.

Don't make sweeping statements about matters that are purely state and local.

In my state you must registar to buy a gun! so for most folks it's just an upgrade of their rights to get a CCW since they are already registered as a gun owner

One of the reasons that one might want a CCW in addition to abiding by local laws is the old liberal "send a message" mantra. If 500k or 1million or 2 million CCW's are issued in aggregate by the states how many more owners are there? The more CCW's there are the more politically unpalateable firearms restrictions will look to government at all levels. In addition it has already largely defused the "streets will run with blood" meme during the - what? - 20 years since Florida started its program. So there are good reasons to do it both on a personal and on a civic level.

Actually, CCW means Concealed Carry of Deadly Weapons. It doesn't just apply to firearms. I am sure there are folks out there who have applied to obtain a CCW permit, and carry deadly weapons other than firearms.

Being a holder of a CCW permit does not necessarily mean that you are a registered owner of a firearm.
That's not the case in Michigan. Here, we are issued a CPL (concealed pistol license). This allows me to legally carry a handgun and nothing else.

Ok, I must retract my statement about CCW applying to other weapons, as opposed to strictly firearms.

In Kentucky, it means carrying of a concealed deadly weapon, i.e. knives over 6" in total length, brass knuckles, a baton, a freaking samari sword if it so floats your boat.

Sorry for the generalization folks, but a simple correction would be much better than a flame. And also, let's keep it High Road huh?

I have an IWB holster, if you're interested.

Same in FL, but I have to leave my knife at home if I'm heading into Alabama. The logic escapes me.

In Missouri we don't register a particular firearm that will be carried concealed. If they were to come to my door to confiscate my CCW weapon I could give them my cheap FIE .25 ACP and they wouldn't be the wiser...

Unless you buy from a private person you still have to undergo a background check even if they don't list the gun being purchased, they still know you have one.
