Why CCW?

CCW list, who cares.

Utah currently has over 214,000 active permits. State population is only 2.7 million with probably over a million under the age of 21. I don't know how many of the permit holders are non-residents, but even if it's half that would leave about one out of every twenty Utah adults with a permit.

Firearms are specified in Colorado so we must be the odd balls.

In Connecticut, the license is a "License to Carry Pistols and Revolvers."

New York too: "License to Carry Pistol" is printed right on it. Strange rules here: you could have a carry permit and a perfectly legal concealed handgun but get busted because your Buck knife is not in plain view on your belt.

Must have permit to carry period

I live in Tennessee and I must have a handgun carry permit to legally carry a loaded handgun whether I carry it openly or concealed in public or my car. About the only way I can carry a loaded handgun off my property is when taking part in outdoor type activities, if I don't have a permit. I would risk a misdemeanor fine and handgun seizure without a permit. It is too much hassle to carry without a permit when you add up the fine, gun seizure, and lawyer cost to keep my criminal record clean.

We can only carry handguns with the handgun carry permit in TN or those visiting TN carrying on their licenses/permits (TN honors all out of state licenses/permits). Anyone can carry a knife up to four inches blade length. You have to get a training certificate to legally carry a club, blackjack, slapper in TN that is different from a handgun carry permit.

What state is that? If you don't have a CCW, and haven't been through this, how do you know? Talk and hearsay? "I read it on the errornet?"

If you are harrassed (cuffed and roughed up, etc.) for a legal activity, you and your lawyer can get quite rich on the settlement
The state is Oregon and I was there in a friends truck when it happened.
If you think your going to get rich sueing the police I've got a tower and bridge to sell you. Harder to sue a cop than a doctor.

I've lived in Oregon for most of my life and have held an OR CHL for over 7 years. As far as police harassment goes, so far my CHL has got me out of two speeding tickets that I deserved, and an brief conversation with a state trooper about j-frames and pocket holsters (he had never seen this set up before, you could almost see the lightbulb above his head light up as he considered the possibilities)
This same young trooper was a little nervous that I was armed when he pulled me over. Considering that he was alone and that I had two somewhat large and unsavory looking friends with me in the vehicle, I could understand his nervousness. He politely asked if I could step out and if he could take posession of the weapon for the course of the interview. I complied, he ran my info, apologized and retured my weapon, asked about the pocket holster, and finally advised me that I really shouldn't be driving 70mph in a 55 zone and to have a safe trip. This was the most hassle I have ever received from the cops and it didn't bother me one bit.

All other occasions that I have interacted with LEOs I just handed them the CHL with my drivers license and AFTER they have looked it over I told them I was armed and where the firearm was. Typical response was usually along the lines of "thanks for telling instead of waiting for it to become the big SURPRISE".

How we personally handle these situations often dictates the outcome. If you are not forthright with a cop and you surprise him with a gun, then he will either do what he is trained to do or he will flip out. Both of these outcomes are potentially bad for Joe CHL. Of course, in OR, their is no legal duty to inform LEOs if you are legally armed until they ask, but in my case volunteering this info has always made the interaction a pleasant one vs. a shakedown.

It's been fun guys and you answered my original question quite accurately. Good luck in the barb wire hotel or in the mass grave they have planned for you. FRJ

Can't believe I wasted my time replying to a damn troll.
GO AWAY KID!

The only people I know who own firearms and are not CCW holders are people who have a criminal past, and CANNOT get a CCW.
I was LEO for over 8years and carried off duty under the authority of my commision....I took a new job 1000 miles away as a gunsmith...right after I got here my company cut my pay...so now I am barely making it....I am saving money to get a ccw but I have to pay for a course that I am qualified to train....then the other fees for this CCW...since I am now living paycheck to paycheck...I can not get a ccw for a long while....thanks for the blanket statement....

Sounds like you hit a rough patch and I wish you the best of luck. Does Texas have any sort of review board you can appeal too?

FRJ, we look forward to you joining us in the "barb wire" hotel. After all, if the evil minions of the government monitor CCW permit holders, you can pretty well bet that they monitor internet forums as well. You've tipped your hand, and the authorities are now aware of the fact that you're sitting on a pile of unpapered sniper rifles and shotguns.

You're on the list now, buddy!
We are all already on the termination list of "Homeland Security". The New World Order
has already arrived folks, its just a matter of time until they implement it more fully.

Remember: "Ignorance is Strength!" Not!

Alrighty Then . . .

It would seem that this thread has pretty much run its course.

Combine that with an increasing number of personally directed posts . . . and that's all the wrote.
