Why do some gun places make it so hard for gun ...PEOPLE?

    I broke my High Standard firing pin today. Just shooting. NO dry firing ...ever. So I call my gun shop. They say call Jack First. They give me the number. I call. I get put on hold and then the order clerk tells me it's a "controlled item" and the gunsmith must call. I told them that the gunsmith was who gave me the number.
    "Sorry... it has to go to an FFL!"

    Horse pucky! I can gunsmith almost anything except bluing or welding and I had the piece in my hand. I can replace it in a minute...tops. In fact I removed it while holding the phone. And then they pull "controlled item" on me.

    So I ordered it from GW Elliott with no problem whatsoever.

    If they want no retail, why not just say that?

    I reside in Massachusett...While our laws are"interesting",AFAIK parts like pins,springs FCG's,barrels are OK to order,ship.Just no non-PC magazines or(obvious)receivers.It must REALLY suck where you are at.You have my heartfelt sympathy.

    jack first is a pretty good gun shop, and they do a good job of stocking hard-to-find parts, but their customer service sucks. however, they do have a national reputation for being able to get parts where nobody else can, so they can pretty much do what they want, and people will still buy from them - because they have to.

    seeing as its just a sliver of steel, i am of the opiniont hat whoever was on the phone just got tired of talking to you and wanted you to go away.

    Call someone esle who Is willing to do this simple repair for you.

    Had this happen with a cousins Mossberg shotgun. The release piece was broke so you had to hit the cylinder release in order to chamber a new round after firing. It was easy to see what was broke/how to replace it. Mossberg would NOT sell me the part.

    The Jack O.. oops I mean Jack First website is also full of it. Luckily GPC/Numrich Arms has a large variety of parts too and even some of them are available that Ruger and Mossberg would probably restrict and they do not care if you are a FFL either.

    I find in some cases while I'm not really mechcanically inclined that I can do many simple jobs a gunsmith could do, the only difference is he has more experience in diagnostics and has more parts and equipment available to him. I actually fixed my EAA European 380acp with a pair of scissors!(long story)

    Just to play devil's advocate here... Some items require fitting. They don't want to be selling stuff to Bubba, and then have him call up hacked off, and ranting.

    Some items also affect safety. I'll wager that folks like Wilson's, etc., are carrying some fairly sizable insurance policies.
