Why I am jealous of a federal agent...

I dont envy their job, and I dont want to be a hero, I am just so damn attached to my carry piece I feel so naked without it, that I wish I could carry it everywhere, but obviously I cant, LEO cant, only FLEO have the privilege/duty. Obviously thats a really crappy reason, and is not one that would make me ever attempt to join a federal agency, I am just sharing lol. :D

Not all Fed agencies get to carry everywhere. I had to apply for a CCW like everyone else if I wanted to carry 24/7. So I feel you.:)

I am afraid that many here would really have their eyes opened if they knew just how many .gov employees are allowed to carry through the gate and onto the airliner.

For the life of me I can not understand why someone employed by the Dept of Eduacation needs to be allowed to carry in the airplane when a non-fed approved pilot has to check his sidearm if he wants to take it along.

Does that pilot really need a gun to cause harm to the machine he has been charged with?

JL, I totally sympathize. I have to leave my gun locked in my car EVERY DAY, while I am at work. When my gun is not on my hip, I wonder what it is doing, kinda like having kids :) I look forward to getting out of work, or out of the bar, so that I can know exactly where it is - in my control.

My main envy is being able to get a muffler for their firearms without having to pay $200, submit several sets of fingerprints, and get the approval of an at best, elected CLEO, at worst, an appointed and incompetent political hack "police chief".

My problem is I travel to all 50 states regularly and while I keep a growing number of CCW permits there are just some states that I cant carry in...ever, and I have gotten very close to getting the crap kicked out of me for being the wrong color in a few of the neighborhoods I have been working in or stopping for gas in, etc. My only thoughts were...I would feel much more comfortable if I had my gun at my side just in case, but government says I must be disarmed before I get the crap kicked out of me.... :(
 
I'm with The Amigo. I'm with the U.S. Department of the Army Police and I'm not considered a police officer once I leave the facility. I still have to get a permit to carry, and the federal law that allows law enforcement to carry in other states does not apply to us. The reason is no statutory authority. We are at the whim of the facility commander. In fact we are not even considered law enforcement, we are considered protective services. Not all federal officers are allowed to carry.

You don't have to be envious. Federal LEOs have to go through the same as anyone else to buy a silencer.

Just because FLEO are exempt from guns laws and their lives are more meaningful than your worthless serf lives does not mean you get to complain about your rightful rulers. Now drop the keyboard and go toil.

Federal LEOs are not exempt from gunlaws. The NFA weapons they carry are all owned by the agency and their use is dictated by the agency. Their carry authority is either statutory (by law) or by agency regulation. Many agencies only allow you to carry issue weapons. Those that allow personally owned weapons usually restrict the officer or agent to an approved list. I don't know of any agency that allows carry of personal owned long guns or NFA weapons. To own an NFA weapon a FLEO has to do what anyone else does.

There are FLEOs that are not allowed to carry off duty. To carry on commercial aircraft all FLEOs are required to take training before they do. As someone mentioned ICE special agents and most (note most) criminal investigators are allowed to carry all the time. All FLEO are required to qualify with every weapon they carry or may use (rifle,shotgun, smg).

Fedral LEOs are not exempt from any gun laws as far as acquiring weapons and are subject to agency policy with what they carry on and off duty. It's not the utopia many think.

Hey, Griz, no argument on that, working for The Man is far from Utopia, however, it does not change the fact that FLEOs are exempt from gun laws that we serfs toil under:

"35-47-2-2. Excepted persons.
Section 1 of this chapter [prohibition of carrying handguns] does not apply to :

(5) Law Enforcement officers;

(8) Employees of the United States duly authorized to carry handguns."

Indiana Code 35-47-2-2.

FLEOs are exempt from hundreds of state and federal gun laws. Their lives are codified in law as being more worthwhile than the lives of us serfs.

The thread was started by someone declaring their envy of FLEOs not having to comply with carry, carry, statutes, not acquisition laws.

So, employees of the United States can carry guns at their own discretion, but the employers of the United States (namely We The People), cannot....

And how does one get "duly authorized"? Who does the "authorizing"?

Of the 72 federal agencies authorized to carry firearms in the line of duty, 71 are authorized to carry on airline flights (pursuant to regulations).

But not you, peasant. Back to work.

With the 55+ oddball hours/week that I routinely work for "Uncle Sugar" sometimes I lose the big picture of being able to carry when I can drag myself out of the house for some non work related reason. :) Yes I do carry anytime I'm away from home and on airplanes, but mostly the same as any CCW holder can. By the way, I do have a CCW - I believe in "belt AND suspenders" and sometimes I need to carry something smaller than my duty weapon. :D
 
Some can carry off duty, some can't. Some are considered LEO and some aren't. But I never heard of anyone just carrying whatever they wanted, whenever they wanted, wherever they wanted (some did, but that's another story). It usually took some paperwork. But in general, there is alot to be jealous about. The only thing I miss about carrying a badge is carrying my weapons with a certain level of immunity from being jacked by some "cop". With the usual caveats, everyone should enjoy this kind of peace while excercising thier rights as they see fit to protect themselves.
 
I have a "Buddy" that's an FBI Agent. He carries everywhere, and has a 10mm MP5 in his trunk at ALL times.

Me, I'm just a curious and mildly amused onlooker...I don't go anywhere unarmed I believe I might be in danger, and LEO, including Fed have to put up with a lot of BS I never could handle.
