Why is it so hard to find a good 1911 mag?

So I dropped it off at my gunsmith yesterday to see if he can find any issues. I get a call today saying that we are missing a lot of finishing work. He cleaned up "a lot of little issues", and not it runs like a swiss watch. I am going to pick it back up tomorrow and plan to take my bag-o-mags with me. Stay tuned for updates.

Looking at the design of the 1911 magazines its not that complicated, yet magazines are very hit or miss. I have a good 10-15 magazines that don't reliably feed, and they range in price from $15 - $40. What is it about the 1911 magazine that makes it so hard to reproduce?
It's not. Call Wilson. I have literally never had a problem since I switched to Wilson 47Ds. And that's shooting large volume in competition.

Well I took it to the range today after getting it back from the gunsmith, and holy hell its a new gun. It took every mag I through at it(even the pro mag),

I have found over the years it's not usually the mag's problem but the gun!

Yes I've had 1911s not work with some mags but two Colt Combat Commanders (1985 and 2012 makes) I have work with ANY mag. I do mean ANY except maybe pure junk. Colt, Wilson, Ed Brown, Mcgar, Chip McCormick, all work in them. Soon I'll get a few Remington mags and I'll see if they work to.

I think the real problem is how the slide stop has bee set up on the frame. If not in spec it will give problems like early slide hold open, stovepipe jams, and nose dives in the feed ramp.

I've had only Colts. I've had only Colt (Checkmate) mags. I have a dozen of those mags and never had an issue with any of them except an 8. All the 7's were flawless.

I have original colt mags from my Series 80 and it works , i think its made by checkmate. THen i bought the ten rounder Chip McCOrmick and it works fine. The WIlson 47 D is perfect as well. I only have a Colt Series 80 and a Springfield MilSpec both of which didnt have any problems. The mag that came with the SPringfield Armory wasnt as good.
