Why not a Glock 19???

In contrast to a couple of you, I love my personal G19 (third generation purchased in 1998). It fits my hand just right. The only real challenger to it (that I've had personal trigger time on) has been the S&W M&P.

G19 is good to go. I have also read that if you store the 9mm Gen4 models (17,19,26) with the slide locked back, the springs will break in faster and increase reliability. From what I understand the Gen4 models are oversprung and that is what is causing the issues.

Everything I've ever read about breaking in/wearing out a spring, says that compressing does nothing... It's the constant compression and extension that does it. By that logic, locking the slide back only keeps the spring compressed and, like keeping a magazine loaded, it should not cause any wear to the spring...

IME they still take a "set". They will compress to a certain length and stop. This works especially well with autoloading shotguns that are supposed to feed light loads but won't feed the light loads when brand new out of the box, then after storing with the bolt locked back they feed the light loads fine.

I have heard the Gen4 Glock 9mms work fine if you feed them NATO spec or above ammo all the time, which is about 10% more powerful than most US ammunition.

I got my gen4 Glock 19 a few months after they came out and it has run 1,200+ rounds with zero failures. I feel like it fits my hands very well and points naturally, a big part of why I chose it, but I cannot speak for your hands.

Well, I am not worried too much about reliability with a new Gen 4 Glock19. The problems seem to be in early models, and this one was made just last year.

As for the springs, the best way to "break them in" is to shoot them. I don't plan to use this as a carry pistol until fall, so that should give me time to put about 1500 rounds through it before I'll be carrying it.

I plan to carry 124gr +P Gold Dots or Buffalo Bore, so I don't see weak ammo being a problem either.

Speedy--I did look at the PPQ, and I have read nothing but good about it, but I can't find one around me for under $500.

Anyone have experience with Galco's V-Hawk, of Desantis Scorpion? They look promising. I like the double belt loops spread WAY out for stability. A Milt Sparks VM2 would be nice, but I hear the back order is around 2 years...Anything else I should be looking at???

If youre interested in the VMII, check out Top Gun Supply. The usually show them out of stock, but they get them in pretty regular, and they will email you when they do come in. They get a bit of a premium, but its not bad. Ive bought a number of them off them, and dont think Ive waited more than a couple of weeks for one.

Theis Holsters. There are several owner reviews all over the web, especially on GlockTalk. I have one for 4 of my carry guns and have ordered a total of 8 including holsters for friends and family. Without a doubt the best quality, value, and service. Bonus is that my 26 and 23 use the same holster... Look into them. I wear em 10-12 hours a day.

PPQ...if more people handled and shot one, Glock, Sig, H&K and S&W will see a decline in civilian sales... guaranteed.
FWIW this is coming from a full on Glock fanatic

Since you mentioned carrying a glock with a galco product, I wuold like to recommend to you the galco miam rigs. Don't buy the $80 one, buy the $160 dollar one. If you put your G19 inside of a fully closed holster up under your shoulder in a rig like that, you will likely never have a printing issue.
In states where notification under carrying is not required, I've sat at DOT stations talking to cops for an hour or more about my truck inspection/paperwork, etc and never had a problem. If I had a hip holster on I could have never done that.
Before you do-gooders and officers tell me, "if you're legal to carry why didn't you just tell the officer, that's the best policy........."
Yeah right. I tried that once and the corrupted "servant" stole my gun, and it cost me 2 grand in court to prove my innocence and get it back. Because of POLICE BEHAVIOR, my policy has been to never tell anything more than what is absolutely legally required in print.
Anyway, to stay on topic, you mentioned a G19 in a galco, and I highly recommend the shoulder version.

Qman, I actually have a shoulder holster, though not a galco. I use it for long drives. What I need now for every day, is a good IWB holster for the warmer months.

I love the milt sparks summer special 2 for my 1911's, and you can get one for the Glock 19 on brownells.com, at least they had stock last I checked. I was considering trying one since most folks say my Ruger SR9c will fit in a Glock 19 rig.

Other than that I EDC my SR9c (somewhat similar size especially if I leave the extended mag in) in either a crossbreed supertuck or Comptac minotaur, depending on my mood.

g19 owner.

Ditto on the g17 fit. I think if the g19 grip doesnt work, it never will. I might be one of the few to shelve my 19 for a 17 and 26. Can't say its worth selling though because its such a reliable platform and it will always have its place.

I don't find the grip length to be a problem. I think it is the shape. I know you can only make a double stacked 9mm so thin, but sigs and m&ps feel better with their ovalish grips. I just can't afford a P229R and don't like the trigger on the M&P

Have you considered the SR series from Ruger? They are much slimmer than the glock and under your price point. If you check the specs they don't seem that slim, but in the hand they feel like a single stack.

Whether or not you like safeties is definately a consideration, since they have both mag and manual safeties.

Well, I turned my Glock 23 into a "Glock 19" for the first time today (via LWD 40-9 conversion barrel) and it was niiiiiiiice. Such a soft shooter even with +P Winchester ammo. I carry the gun in .40 and will be plinking now with both that and 9mm. The mid size grip works for me... But for some reason so do most autos. I have a M&P9 full size and a Glock 20. Both feel fine even though they couldn't be more different. I don't know, I just adjust my grip according to the weapon and feel fine.

I have a CZ P-07 and just picked up a Glock 26. I actually like the way the Glock shoots more than the CZ. The DA pull on the CZ is a heavy and long. The Glock trigger is lighter and shorter. The CZ's advantage is that it has more "feel." You can tell exactly what part of the stroke you're in. With the Glock you feel the trigger "safety" take up and then it is a bit mushy until it fires.

I like my CZ and I shoot it well. I do prefer the Glock though. It feels more refined and balanced.

I had a G19 and was happy with it until I shot the new PPQ. Wow! It is the fulfillment of the Glock revolution. Walther took the Glock design and perfected it in the PPQ. Now I have one of my own and sold my Glock. Never looking back again...

I love my Glock 19. I think it is the ideal CCW gun. I might suggest that you rent one and shoot it. THis way you might possibly remember why you got rid of the gun in the first place. It is a great gun but it is not for everyone. As far as holsters go, the popular one seems to be Raven Concealment. Another great choice is Comptac.

Do not want to rain on your parade but I did the same only to find that the drop in barrels make your gun unreliabile. Mine jammed with a Wolf 9mm barrel and then found out that a lot of others had the same problem. I ended up returning the 9mm barrel as I could not tolerate a gun that jammed every 3 mags. Also traded the 23 in for an M&P 9c. Sort of inbetween a Glock 26 and 19 in size.
