WI: help Barb Linton defeat Rep. Gary Sherman

With the primary elections now over, it's time to focus on getting pro-concealed carry candidates elected in November. It will take some time before we'll have information for you on all of the pro-gun candidates. In the meantime, though, one race stands out above the rest as pivotal to the cause of concealed carry.

That's the race between Barbara Linton and turncoat Representative Gary Sherman.

Governor Doyle has made Gary Sherman's re-election a top priority. Doyle has held many, many fund-raisers for Sherman with anti-gun forces in Madison and Milwaukee. And for good reason: if Sherman loses to Barbara Linton, it will send a clear signal to other legislative Democrats that siding with the governor against gun owners is political suicide. Sherman's defeat would weaken Doyle politically.

As of last week, Sherman's campaign had $63,000 in the bank.

Meanwhile, Barbara Linton has been campaigning long and hard, and doing an excellent job. She's doing very well in terms of contributions, but she could still use more. With your help, she can beat Sherman like a drum.

We need to make sure that she wins. Our political action committee--the WCCM--has already contributed the maximum amount allowed by law to her campaign. However, you can personally contribute any amount up to $500 to her campaign. Even $5 or $10 will help. Or you can volunteer your time.

This race is a must-win. If Sherman isn't defeated, it will make getting concealed carry passed next year extremely difficult. That's how critically important this race is.

Monkeyleg - One thing I'd recommend. The Linton folks need to push hard to get some signs out around Superior. I was up that way in July, and there were Sherman signs all over the place. Name recognition is a huge thing, and he's been working at it hard all year.

TrapperReady, Superior isn't Sherman's district. It's Frank Boyle's, probably the single most anti-gun member of the assembly (and a certifiable fruitcake).

Sherman's district is Ashland, Bayfield, Sawyer, and Iron Counties. From what I hear from people in Sherman's district, this is going to be a close election. Sherman has the money advantage, while Linton has the grassroots support.

We need to close the money gap a bit more.

I promised myself last Feb. that I'd contribute to whoever ran against Sherman. Tomorrow, I'll make good on that promise.

For those of you who missed the details Last Feb, Sherman flipped his vote at the last second and cost us CCW in this state.

Sorry about that. We'd headed up to Lake Superior around Bayfield. There were quite a few Sherman signs, but nothing from the opposition.

BTW, I remember listening to Frank Boyle on the internet feed during the CCW votes. I was surprised that his foam and spittle didn't actually ooze through my computer's speakers.

Let me follow up on tommytrauma's post.

Gary Sherman didn't just "flip." The sumbitch voted for the concealed carry bill in 2002. In June of 2003, he put his name on the bill as a co-sponsor. He voted for the bill in November of 2003. At about that time, he wrote numerous articles published in the newspapers up in his district about why enabling Wisconsin citizens to have the means to defend themselves was extremely important. If you'd read his articles, and just closed your eyes, you would have thought it was Charlton Heston writing and speaking.

He continued on with this rhetoric, right up until maybe two weeks away from a veto override vote. Suddenly, the rumor was that Sherman might flip.

Of all the legislators we thought might be open to bribery, Sherman was one of the last on the list. Clearly, we and other gun groups were wrong. Gary Sherman can be bought off. For how much? Time will tell. It doesn't matter what price he's set for prostituting himself; all that matters is that we now know what he does for a living.

WI residents: nail this sumbitch.
