I'll get right to the point, will Bass Pro Shop or Cabelas match a competitors regular pricing (or even better sale pricing) on a firearm? There's a .22LR lever action I'm looking at getting however the pricing at my local Bass Pro is around $450 (same pricing at Cabelas). However I found Fleet Farm selling them for about $360 every so often. Which is nearly a $100 difference, but keeping in mind that I would have to go to Wisconsin and then have it sent to a local FFL means the price would jump.

Therefore I'd perfer to buy it locally and keep the middle man along with his fees out of the equation. So if I walk into my Bass Pro and show them the printed current ad will they honor the sale price? Or would their be some catch like only local stores from the state would have the price honored.
Keep in mind I already looked around the forum with the search function, but couldn't find a clear-cut answer with many people saying tons of different things.

Is my best bet just to call up the store and ask for their store policy?

I know that Bass pro will match any competitors price, as long as it is an "in stock" firearm. If they have to special order it, they will not.

Cabellas, I'm not sure.

I asked at Cabelas about a year ago. They would only match another "big box" store. So I went to Federal Way Discount Guns and saved a considerable amount of $.

I asked recently at Cabela's (maybe a couple months ago, or so). The guy I spoke with at the gun counter said they will match a local competitor's price, provided it's an actual storefront shop, not just an online business, like Bud's Gun Shop. He also said it had to be a general camping/fishing/hunting/shooting store (similar to Cabela's...), and that they would call the other store to confirm the price, and that the item is actually in stock.

They may have changed their policy since j2crows asked, or the guy I spoke with was misinformed, but he was pretty specific about the requirements...

Edit:

Easy to just check for yourself though. Give em a call and find out. I did the work for you:

Bass Pro Shops - Bolingbrook, IL - (630) 296-2700
Cabela's - Hoffman Estates, IL - (847) 645-0400

That's the closest Bass Pro Shops to Chicago (there's one in Gurney, IL too), and the only Cabela's in the state.

Not worth the effort. If a mom and pop shop prices better than Cabalas or Bass, why not buy through them instead of having the big store "meet" or "match" a price.

If the big boys can really beat the price by a significant amount, that may be a different story but I would pay an extra 20 maybe more to get the service a mom and popper can and will provide.

They might match any "local" advertised price ... but wouldn't think they would match one that is not ... and out of state is for sure now.

Oh, and I don't believe you would have to have a long gun shipped to a local FFL if you showed up in Wisconsin to buy. Handgun, yes.

Will the place in wisconsin ship to your local ffl the taxes youd save on a $460 rifle should cover shipping and ffl fees

like said above it has to be a local storefront with the item in stock, i tried to get them to price match something walmart had listed online but because it was not an item they keep stocked in store they wouldnt match it.

Buy it from wherever you find it at the price you like, and don't expect a competitor to match it.

The price I like is in another state, nearly 5 hours away(I only visit the area a few times a year.) So it's quite the pain to buy the gun, then have to have it shipped back to an IL FFL, where then it will sit unused for a few months untill next time I go back up to Wisconsin to shoot.

That's why I'd much rather prefer to buy it locally, but the prices around here are horrendous.

You can't expect a retailer to match prices with some store that's hundreds of miles away. I'd be embarassed to even ask.

go ahead and ask... what's the worst thing that'll happen... they'll say NO... if you don't try you won't find out...
