My friend is thinking of hiding his spare Glock in the deep recesses of his attic during shift at work. (He can't afford a safe at this point.) Will keeping the Glock in the attic during the day cause them to rust? Considering that it will be oiled daily... brought back in the house every night... but during the day, it will be in a hot and humid Louisiana weather?

HAHA. no. hahaa. sorry, but It's just so funny that you would think that a Glock would rust that easily. no, It should not rust.

except for the barrel, if you like poured water down it or something of that nature

From whom is he hiding it seems the more important question. If he's hiding it from theft, he's already broken rule one by telling you. ;)

If, however, he's hiding it from his children then I'd be very worried. They'll find it. In that case he'd be better off locking it in the trunk of his car, or pulling the slide off and locking the frame or slide in the trunk of his car if he cannot possess a firearm at work.

Not hiding it from the kids. Just a precaution to slow down the burglars ....until he gets a safe. Seriously though... i realize its a polymer...but if he removes the barrel...will the inner components rust?

it should be fine if its only temporary if your worried about kids or someone finding it you could allways drill a hole in something in the attic and attach it through the magwell with the slide locked back to a bike cable lock or something most pepole dont really search the attic if they were going to rob a house i assume expecialy if its unfinished.

and if its kids it will be locked to a stationary object unless they go cutting through part of whatever you drill a hole in but most pepole would notice little timmy going to town with a hack saw in their attic.

if its just theft and you have an attic like mine thats unfinished and has 10000 random junky objects and random hidey holes in it then you should be fine though

it probably wont rust you could allways give it a little bit of rig on the metal surfaces to make yourself feel better as long as its oiled and its checked every few days i cant see it getting rusty

I can't say for sure, but I have taken off my CCW Glocks after being soaked from the rain and put them in the safe and never seen a spot of rust on them. That said, I live in the Western US.

The polymer frame is obviously not going to rust. The surface hardening treatment on the barrel and slide would only rust with extreme difficulty, if at all. The internal metal parts are nickel plated and/or Teflon coated. The springs might be able to rust. Considering it is to be taken out of its hiding place every so often, I think the probability of any rusting is nil.

I would disasemble and lock it to my bed frame or something.

The only thing I fear worse than getting shot, is getting shot with my own firearm, because I didn't properly store it. I also suggest that he check into the state's liability laws for improperly stored firearms. There is all price of handgun "safes". A cheap $200.00 "secure box" is better than nothing.

I've heard some cases where glock pistols not only rust, also degraded and shivering because were placed close to BHP, CZ 78-B and one WW II Colt 1911 for long period of times.

Now seriously, nothing will happen if you check the your safe environment properly.
