I have a ruger aluminum rail I just j.b. welded to a vz58 synthetic top cover. I also j.b. welded it to the metal ends. Lots of surface glued together.

I guess you will find out. I am guessing not. I would go for some kind of mechanical fastener, like some small bolts. I tried to J.B. Weld a sight on a low recoil gun once, aluminum to steel with plenty of surface texture, and it came off after a couple shots.

yeah I know and aren't take any bets. Hopefully a 1/2 inch by 5 inch rail will hold better. I still might try to bolt it on but the piston rod has about zero clearance under the rail for a nut.

Just googling some other guys have gotten away with my mad scheme even with more powerful caliber and gauges.

I think it will work if done according to the JB Weld directions.

Not saying I would have done it but it will probably work.

If JB Weld can't fix it, time to throw it away anyhow.

I've used JB for a bunch of repairs and it usually holds just fine. Small shiney surfaces have given me fits, but a larger surface area and the right ratio of A and B parts is usually good to go. It usually helps to scuff up the surfaces to be mated also, seems to work a bit better.

Well I got the top cover with the rail back on the rifle. Doesn't look too bubbha if I do say so myself. I'll let it sit for a few days and hope it decides it is an integral part of the rifle. A micro red dot will go on it.

When I go shooting I will report if it holds or hurls off. I bet it holds.

Hello all, I have Used J B Weld on manya Gun Project, mostly were it can't been seen, attached some Flash Hiders that way and a few other small Fixes and it worked 100%! As Long as the mating of Metal was Clean and secure it held fine, let us know how that works out?
