Widener's has them for $46/1000, which is a good deal, but I don't want to order them if they won't feed reliably. I've never used semi-wadcutters in a semi-auto, anybody have experience with them?

Only one way of knowing, and that's buy a box of 20 or 50 and have a go.
I personally wouldn't risk buying 1K if it's unknown whether they function in your XD - that's a big can o' worms! Then again, $46 isn't THAT much of a loss. I can drink $46 worth of beer in 2 hours... jus' sayin'

My XD-45 Tac will eat anything i put into it.
My $900 stainless Colt Series 80 1911 won't feed anything other than fmj :banghead:

go for it!

Probably.
It depends on the design of the SWC

My XD9 subcompact and XD45 tactical both feed respective SWC's well. However, the XD45 is real particular about seating depth.

I use a H&G#68 style SWC and the XD45 requires it a 1.265" - 1.270" oal.
My Springflield Armory 1911 match-target requires them at 1.255-1.265". The 1.265" is an ideal compromise, however, the 1911 will occasionally fail to fully lock closed at this lenght.

The "essence" is that the OAL has to be tailored to the gun.

FWIW; my Glock G22 shoots all the SWC's I've tried through it well. Just the lead has to be hard, and the pressures/velocities low or it leads horribly. (polygonal rifling).
