Will SKS rifles begin to jump in price in the next year or so?

Whether this is likely or not, is there an import ban for US citizens on Norinco semi-auto rifles, or has the ban been lifted?

I know nothing about this (being a beginner), but just read about it somewhere else on the Internet, and might like to buy an SKS in the next year or so, to augment the two Minis and Mosins.
 
seems to me that all rifles have jumped in price over the past year (i know the sks has since i priced one in october for my girlfriend then bought one in feburary and price had gone up $50)
i expect them to keep going up as raw material prices increase and the value of the dollar decreases
 
Prices have already started to go up even for the Yugos, but they are still out in excellent shape for under $250. the Noricnos are quite high, comparitvely, due to thier import ban by Bush Sr. That was a while ago. Snag a Yugo, look for unissued or excellent shape, and you should be happy, good rifles.

Norinco SKS rifles were not banned by Bush(41). Importation was halted by agreement between Clinton and China. It was part of a deal for the US to overlook China's human rights violations and allow them to keep their "most favored nation" status.
 
I was at a local gun store on Thursday admiring an SKS and was told by the owner that every distributor he deals with just raised the prices on SKS's by $30.

of course, he could have just been trying to get me to buy right then
 
And Yugos have added unreliability thanks to the grenade launcher and gas cutoff valve. The valves are prone to failure. This added complexity is not found in other models of SKS, and they have a better reputation for reliability.

Of course, this could just be sour grapes considering my Yugo had a bad gas valve.
 
They are selling fast. Went to the gun shop to order a new M&P Tuesday and the rack was full of SKS and WASRs. Went Back Thursday to check on the order status and there was a single WASR left. That was 8 SKSs sold in three days. Some of them had been in the rack for months.

Are people that worried about the upcoming elections or is it just income tax refund time?
 
I paid too much for a yugo last year so I am waiting for prices to rise so I don't feel so bad about impulse buying. I will admit it was cherry new unissued so a little premium pricing wasn't totally insane.

I don't see a lot of SKS at gun shows like I use to.
 
Those who have them are now hoarding. It will be a matter of time when things will go as high as it can be. The economy is not stable.

There aren't really that many SKSes left for importers to cherry-pick that they can import- the UN is trying to clamp down on arms imports, and most of Eastern Europe has stabilized enough they're not desperately selling off guns and ammo to help keep their economies afloat like they were ten years ago.
 
Gun prices that jump up suddenly because of political upheaval often jump back down suddenly.Long term prices creep slowly up as supplies dwindle and demand increases.While you sleep,your SKS value rises by a few cents.Then a dollar or two.Eventually,it will be worth twice what you paid for it.Then you can crow about it.You can't pay too much for a milsurp.You can only buy it too early.
 
For younger people, it's hard to imagine how prices can skyrocket. We tend to use our past experiences as "the norm".

I bought an 99% unfired Russian rebuild a few years ago for $129. Now it's worth maybe $350-400. In a few years it may well be worth $750-1000.
 
I bet the EU countries with the combloc weapons are seeing the value of their stockpiles. It goes to say , they learned what capitalism is.

And with this, we will have to worry for ammo for these guns. Food for these babies we cared so much , LOL.

He did a whole truck load of guns with his 1989 ban. The only Chinese he got were the Norinco and Polytech AKs. They took the bayonet off the Norinco SKS and it was still legal for import.
 
I bought a very nice Yugo SKS for $150 back in July of '06, sure glad I did!:D Its a very fun, utility rifle, that packs a good punch.
 
Bought 2 SKS's a Yugo all cosmolined up and a Russian,both had great stocks so I bought them.Prices where I live is usually higher than other parts of the country so getting a decent deals is unknown (to me unless I research the net),if I did or didnt,but I DID buy these 2 because of the 'rapid decline' of SKS's on the shelves.

The gun store I bought these had 15 SKS's for months...then suddenly down to zip...glad I got them,now when I did.The store owner mentioned a sudden 'drop off' of SKS's and other AK variants,parts,etc.from their suppliers,and he didnt know why,or wasnt saying.

Yugo was about $230

The Russian about $350

Havent shot them yet,but going next week to see how they handle.
