Will Tacoma PD lose their 1911's?

If you haven't heard the Police Chief of Tcaoma Washington shot his wife and then committed suicide.

My concern here is if he was a believer in the 1911 platform for Law Enforcement use. If so, who is the new chief going to be, and does anyone know his/her thoughts on the 1911?

I highly doubt the incoming chief will allow the troops to continue using the Kimbers.

I couldn't imagine them using that as an excuse to get rid of them if they wanted to (well, a logical person anyway). Do other agencies get rid of their Glocks if someone misuses one?

Well one of the highest profile switches of recent memory, for no reason, was when Chief Moose took over as Montgomery County, Maryland's head LEO and immediately moved to dump homestate Beretta for Glock.

Of course, Moose is widely, (and accurately), regarded as an idiot, so his endorsement of Glock is hardly one that Smyrna should crow about.

Tacoma has invested in their Kimbers. I doubt they will dump them just on the basis of money already spent.

The article I read on MSNBC regarding this stated that a Glock .45 was found at the scene, not a 1911.

Probably a G-36, easier to conceal...that's my guess...why would you want to ruin a perfectly good Kimber...

I am not making light of the situation, I think it is cowardly...and a sad end to their lives as they knew them. And I honestly don't comprehend someone doing somthing like this in front of their own children.

Tacoma police have the choice of various personal side arms. Kimbers are only one of them. Glock is another choice they are allowed to carry.

I wonder how long it will be before this atypical incident is utilized to show why police shouldn't be allowed to own or carry handguns?
