Will the United States survive until 2022?

I sincerely doubt it. It was damaged in 1865, and several other times since. The Mayan calender comes to an end in 2012, and I wonder what they knew that we don't ... yet. :what:
What really matters is:
WILL THE CONSTITUTION SURVIVE MUCH LONGER???

It's just barely holding on as it is ....

NO, it won't - you all will be living in the woods with your guns buried in PVC, waiting for the UN's heliocopters.

Drivel for those whining for the good old days when - whatever.

In fact, the US made a major step for progress in 1865 when slavery was put to rest. Unfortunately, the South decided to continue racism through the Jim Crow laws.

By the time people bury the weapons, they've already surrendered. I sincerely hope no one does that.

When America was free.

Oh. Right. The problem all along was racism, not government tyranny. I see it clearly now--Lincoln's complete disregard for the Bill of Rights and Habeas Corpus was really no trouble at all. It's not like the States had the sole authority under the 10th Amendment to govern slavery (or abolish it) on their own with no Federal interference anyway, right?

Seriously, I have a question for you: Since the Jim Crow laws were reversed long ago, what would you now say constitutes America's biggest problem?

Lol exactly.. I love how people here are always so nostalgic about the good ol days and are still worked up over the "War of Northern Agression" .. Those good ol days were so good for a big chunk of Americans who happen to have a darker skin tone.

Yeah, and because they weren't, everyone else should feel guilty and not yearn for their freedom again, right?

No one said you should feel guilty about anything. Im just saying the good ol days werent really all that good. Guess it depends on your perspective though.

Also.. how are you not free? You may not have free rein to do whatever you want, whenever you want, but you're as free as you're gonna get living here in America. When people do whatever they want with no rule of law, choas ensues. All I gotta do is drive 15 miles south and I see it first hand.

I just don't think the American Idea is that fragile, people. Call me unreasonably optimistic, but America will survive this latest pendulum swing as it has survived a civil war, economic collapse, two world wars, border skirmishes, assassinations etc. etc. etc.

We may come out bloodied, but not broken.

Slavery was already dying, and nearly dead, in the South. It would have been gone within another generation or so if the South had won, or if the war had never been fought. Slavery was a convenient excuse for the North to subjugate the South.

An interesting question is whether race relations would have been as bad as they have been historically if the South had been allowed to free the slaves, and grant them civil rights, without Northern interference.

Back on topic (even though the CW had nothing to do with Slavery:neener: ) Yes, the America that we currently know will continue to exist and prosper. Is it the America our forefathers envisioned? Nowhere close. Is it still the best damned place to live in the world? Hell yes.

I really enjoyed the article for historical facts. As long as our society and individuals believe that all men are created equal, it will be the glue along with faith to overcome.

I do not fear change. See you in TX when the SHTF. Ill be wearing the USA parachute pants and matching bandana ;)

The Bill of Rights will prosper.

But it will be virtual. And for almost everyone that will be just fine.

Most people will be more interested in their existences in a virtual reality than the world we think is worth fighting and dying for.

Longeyes has it, but I would add that at that point, the line between "virtual" and "reality" will be considerably more blurred and open to interpretation.

The US will be alive and well in 2022. And 2100. And 2200. And 2300.

The Roman Republic and Roman Empire lasted for almost 1000 years and the US will out live both of them.

Every liberal I talk to thinks that a world government is needed. They don't call it that, normally, they refer to some entity that will make sure Kyoto is followed, or that will ensure peace, etc. But so many people have no fear of giving power to men. That's what scares me, that people have no understanding what power will do to a human being, and what that powerful human being will do right back to them.

I think that former Soviet Republics may be the freest places in the world soon.
