Will try Remington 165 Gr Corelokt PSP

I was at Basspro and bought one box of this for $ 20 plus tax . I will try 165 gr to sight in my Garand . I had it zeroed with WInchester 150 gr SP before but reading from here the 165 gr is highly recommended. Will see how it goes.

Will use this for deer and hogs if i get the chance someday although I have my REmington BDL in 2506 for deer with scope.

Its my understanding(correct me if I'm wrong)that the M1 Garand was built, tested and used for all those years with a 150 gr. bullet at 2700 FPS muzzle velocity. Some Military match ammunition used a heavier bullet specially formulated for its designated use. To my simple mind, it would seem that that weight (150) would be optimum for the Garand performance and function. I know that 150 gr, works well on deer and even elk if the shooter does the job assigned.
Why would 165 be better? A touch of magnumitus, maybe.

DANGER !

Pardon me butting in. But for safety reasons, It is not recommended that you use commercial ammunition in an M1 Garand.
There is a danger of slam fires with the soft primers used in commercial ammo.
You will also need an adjustable gas plug for your M1 Garand because of burn rates in
the powder. YMMV but I would recommend either the new Hornady special M! ammunition
or the CMP store.

you won't be disappointed with the performance of the Rem core-lokt, it's my fav slug to load for woods hunting. cheap too, 1/2 price of the 'superior' other makers slugs.
but as said a 150 gr will do the job if the shooter does his.

NO Commercial ammo in the US Rifle cal .30 M1 UNLESS you have the adjustable/modified gas plug installed.

Without that, you WILL bend the op-rod and other assorted nastiness.

As others have mentioned, if this is loaded factory ammo, it is not recommended to use it in a Garand. I believe the peak pressure of standard factory ammo exceeds the design limits of the unaltered Garand.

Unless you have an adjustable gas valve, you chance damaging components of the rifle, especially the operating rod.
It's your rifle, so you make the choice.

Oh i forgot to say i installed a SChuster Adjustable gas plug on my M 1. Its been worth the price i got it onsale at Midwayusa back then.

Can't speak to the Garand, but my 700 BDL prefers the 165 gr Core-Lokts to the 150s or 180s.

I've handloaded the same projectile (165g Rem CLSP) for my Garands. Satisfied with the accuracy on paper.

BTW, the later issue loading was M2AP in the Garand, which was a 163g projectile. Got some of those as pulldowns, surprisingly accurate projectile.

I've talked with Federal and Winchester in the past, some of their .30-06 loadings are just fine in the Garand. The big problem is that there is no apparent industry standard on marking ammo as being suitable for the Garand.

Yes, there are some manufacturers who are finally starting to mark their product...

The Federal American Eagle 150g .30-06 FMJ loading is very popular among the Garand-o-philes, FWIW.
