Winchester 1892 new production

So can anyone tell me about the quality of the new production Model 1892 rifles from Winchester? Saw a 20" barrel model chambered in .357 on the Bud's Gunshop website and it sorta re-ignited my interest. I know a few companies make copies of this design, but I always thought it would be neat to own an actual Winchester. Are the new ones any good?

Not an "actual Winchester" in the sense of being made in the USA.
Made by Miroku like all those other reproduction/reissue Browning-Winchesters, it ought to be of very nice quality.

Well that probably kills it for me. It it's not made in the US, I don't think I could bring myself to buy one no matter how good it was.

Unfortunately, that kills it for a lot of folks. Which is sad because Miroku produces the best-made levergun on the market today. Hell, since 1964 at least. Bar none. If you can overlook their origin, they are wonderful rifles!

i met a guy at the range once with one when i was shooting my uberti 73,he had one and let shoot it, it was a REALLY nice shooter.

The current retail actually reflects the reason that the Winchester rifles are no longer made in the U.S. by Winchester.

To make them "like they used too", requires a good bit of high quality manufacture of components as well as the hand fitting reqired by skilled armorers. This cost $$$$.

I would actually like to have a new production Winchester but the $$$$ I find to be the problem and justifing such expenditure.

They are NICE rifles, but a vintage Winchester is still less expensive (generally) and has better resale value.

Not only that but they have been making all of the A-Bolt and X-Bolt rifles for decades. Also, the Auto-5 shotgun (when it was recently available) all made by Miroku.

They are an outstanding firearms manufacturer with impeccable quality and I would not hesitate to acquire any of their firearms.

Worked with a Miroku '92 in .45 Colt a few weeks back. Quite nicely done, better than any US-made Winchester levergun in the last two decades.

It does have the rebounding hammer & sliding tang safety, two more things traditional purists dislike about the Japanese guns.
But- they are well made, and the days of a new $400 Winchester levergun are long gone.

At least there's parts support for the Japanese guns, FN/Browning/Winchester has pretty much abandoned the US guns in that area.

I have a Browning B-92 in .44Magnum. I heartily agree Miroku makes an excellent product!

The Miroku guns are great but pricey. High quality fit and finish. The same cannot be said of all current US manufacturers.

Well, it sounds like they do make a nice product, but this would be a range gun and more something fun to own than something I need to have. The made in Japan aspect sorta takes the romance outta the deal for me. It's not like I have anything against firearms made outside the US, as I certainly own more than a few, but something about not being able to produce such an iconic American design firearm in the US rubs me the wrong way. I have a Henry Big Boy which is made in the US and appears pretty well-made to me but doesn't have any true historical connection like the 1892. Oh well, I guess I saved $900. =)

I've purchased and enjoyed many Miroku guns over the years. Never regretted buying any of them. Sure, it's not the same. But for shooting and enjoying they're great, in some ways better than the original. It's a different thing altogether. If you want to pick up real Winchester, be prepared to spend real money.

Miroku makes very well finished out guns. Would not stop me. Prolly much better than the southern euro made model 92's?

Much better than my post-64 model 94 (1969) that I sold a few months ago. It went bang, but the love was just not there

If it's any consolation Winchester bought the design from John Browning. All Winchester did was manufacture them.

I do understand about the made in USA, though. But USA manufactured rifles seem to be dwindling, unfortunately.

I have a patented design in manufacturing right now. One of the caveats is all materials and fabrication to be USA only, I insist on it.

I've got the Winchester / Miroku Model 92 in 45LC and love the gun. Mine's a the saddle ring carbine with the large loop. I'd personally consider this the original assault rifle, it's just plain awesome. The only thing that I don't like about it is that it says Japan on the side. One day I'll hopefully be able to find an original in 44-40.

Hey, if you want a good, US made historical gun, look at Cimarron Arms. They have some nice looking '92s.

I thought that Cimmaron was Uberti, only they did the finish work on them... Therefore Italian not USA. Feel free to fill me in i'm wrong or they've changed stuff around recentley

Cimarron's leverguns are Italian imports.
