Picking up my new 70 tomorrow, getting a featherweight 308 for under $500, don't ask me how :D I opted for the 308 over the 270 because of the 22" barrels, I like longer barrels on 270s and other overbore cartrages. Short action is a bit lighter too.

Nice choice, you will love that FNH-USA action. I have a featherweight as well in .308 its a great little rifle. I've had mine for two years its my primary deer rifle.

I am going to work up some 168gr Ballistic tip loads and some 165gr SGKs and hit the range as soon as I can get some time off of work. I am dying to see how well I can get it to group. Will keep everyone posted. Not expecting Tikka level groups but if I can hone it down to 1/2"-3/4" with hunting bullets I will be happy as a clam.

I bought one in 308 used 2 years ago and it has become my favorite rifle. I did replace the factory stock with a McMillan Edge which took another 1/2 lb off the weight.

I experimented with both RL-15 and Varget and get great accuracy with both. The Varget gives me about 25 fps more speed with equal accuracy so I've settled on that powder.

46 gr with 165's is giving me 2750 fps with the accuracy you are looking for. 47 gr with 150's is running at about 2890 with equal accuracy. I've been experimenting with 130 TTSX bullets at around 3050 fps. I need to tweak something here. Accuracy is OK, but not under 1" yet.

I think you will really like this one.

I've had Tikka's in the past and would highly recommend one to someone looking for a rifle. I sold mine, not because I didn't like it, but only because I had other rifles that were just as accurate that I liked slightly better. Can't keep all the toys.

Those are the two powders I was planning on picking up today, great minds think alike :D I want to find some Lapua brass, but they have been sold out everywhere around here. I'll probably settle on Rem brass, it has done well in my 270 short mag and my 30-06

Just got my new model 70 Featherweight home :D topped it with a Nikon Buckmaster BDC 3-9x40 and tied with a Super sling. Great looking gun! Will post pics and range report as soon as I can get it to Stix River.

Just checked out the Winchester 70s yesterday.

I shouldered and fondled Remington 700 CDLs, Savages of all shapes and sizes, a Tikka, a Howa, and the Winchester. The Winchester wasn't on my list to look at but it WILL be the next gun in my safe. If I can get 1" or so grouping, I could care less about sub MOA crap. If it shoots 1.5" at 100, then 4.5" at 300.....IF i even shoot that far, is fine by me. The pro's of the fit and finish above the others more than makes up for a slightly less accurate rifle that in the end, makes no difference in the deer woods. If it shoots worse than 1.5", we might worry, but I can't see a reason not to get it if you just want a nice feeling, nice smoooooooooth action, rifle to HUNT with, not bench rest.

Oh yeah, I bought mine for hunting for sure, If I was looking for another range king I would buy a Savage 12 series or a Tikka Varmiter. My 70 is so smooth and ergonomic I don't need one hole groups for it to earn a place in my safe. A+ fit and finnish!

I shot my 70 a few times today with the loads tweaked a bit since last time...if you guys 70's shoot anything like mine....you will be pleasantly surprised! ;)

Sent from my DROID RAZR MAXX!
