I was wondering if anyone knows of an Internet site (or some other way) that a person can use to look up a Winchester serial number. Recently, I came into possession of my Dad’s model 12. If I remember correctly, he bought it new in the 60’s sometime but I’d really like to look up the serial number and find out when it was made, if this is possible. I don’t know when they quit making these but this one is like new. It really is a nice piece, more so because it was my Dad’s than what it would book for. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Give us the serial number; use "X" for the last digit if it makes you feel better, but be sure to get the right number of digits.

FYI, 1795422 was the first gun made in 1960.

The number on the gun is 1763823. There really isn’t anything else on there other than the basic model and chamber info so if there were different grades I have no idea about that. It’s a pretty basic piece. The VR does say “Simmon’s Gun Specialties, Kansas City, Mo†but that wasn’t on there when Dad got it. He had that put on by the guy that had the business. Seems like they shot at the same Trap/Skeet club or something. It was over 20 years ago but it seems like Dad told me that he used to do that then later, got a contract or something with Winchester for doing vent ribs. Wish I had been a little older or that he was still around to ask about that again.

Your Model 12 was made in 1959. @ 104K were made that year.

I go to www.oldguns.net, they got a Date of Manufacture list for alot of stuff. I punched in 875112 for the model 12 and got 1940. They got alot of stuff for sale too. Enjoy.

Winchester Model 12 Serial No. 1165244/1166244

I have a beautiful Winchester Model 12 with two barrels. The main barrel is full choke and serial number 1165244. The gun also is serial number 1165244. It has an second barrel with serial number 1166244 (note just 1 digit off). The second barrel has a Cutts Compensator or Polychoke on it (not sure which). What year was this gun manufactured and what is its history? This looks like maybe it was a 2-barrel combo. The gun has beautiful engraving on it. The stock is simply the most beautiful wood grain I have ever seen, and the 2 forearms match and are almost as pretty grain. Great condition! What's the thing worth? HELP!!!

The number dates the gun to 1949. FWIW, the numbers should be the same; are you sure you are not misreading one or the other? The numbers are not one digit off, they are 1000 off, which seems unlikely.
