Just read in the Rifleman Magazine that I get from the NRA, that Winchester is going to produce the Model 70 again here in the US (south east), and it should be on the market in June of 08. From the way the article read, seems like it will be a clone of the pre-64's. Anyone else read it?

Yep, made in the USA by FN. It appears the bolt shroud isn't the
pre 64, but the later series up to where they stopped manufacture.
Certainly glad I kept my pre 64 Featherweight Model 70 in 30-06.
In 1962, I was really concerned that maybe I overspent when the
cost was $139. Looks like if it were for sale, a recent jump in value
made it a very good investment that I have ejoyed for years. It
still appears in like new condition!:)

I hope they put rifle sights on the new ones and not cheap out. Without sights, I would not buy one. I like traditional looking rifles. DO YOU HEAR ME WINCHESTER!...

w/ the anticipated street price approaching low-end coopers, i do not think you need to be worried about 'cheaping out'.

otoh, i will not pay money for any new rifle that has sights on it because the first thing i'm gonna do is pull 'em and then have to plug the holes and make it look nice.

I never got to shoot a pre-64 model, but I cannot imagine it shooting any better or me liking it any better than my Model 70 that was made in the 1970's. I have really enjoyed this rifle over the years. Mine is a 30-06

Guess I'll be the first one to poo-poo the idea of buying a new "Win"pos"ter". As far as I am concerned, it will be an FN called Winchester.

I am tired of American businesses being supplanted by forgeign businesses under the same old name. I remember this from my home town. GE used to be a huge employer. Hitachi bought out GE, and over the course of 20ish years, shut the town down. Now, the whole factory stands...empty.

Nope...if I want another Winchster, I'll buy the real McCoy.

Insist that they put rifle sights on it. For that kind of money,FN should anti-up and not cheap out. If you don't care for sights you can always remove them and insert set screws. Without rifle sights, if your scope fails, you are **** out of luck. Let the manufactuer put them on. For the money they will ask, you are entitled to them.:cuss:
