What was the construction of the old Winchester Silver Tip rifle bullets? My idea was they were a soft point with an aluminum cap over it to slow expansion but it could have been a hollow point under there. Does anybody know?

I think they were just aluminum capped. The Remington Bronze points had a small hollow under the penetrator tip to allow the penetrator wedge to aid expansion.

They were soft points with a cap. Not sure if it was Al though. hit a ground hog one time with a 220 ST outof my Garand. The whole bottom of his head just disappeared. Ran up and as it was twitching severely, put another into him. Rolled him over and the entire back side was gone. Friggin' amazing. Yes, I know it was too much gun(so is a .243), but I wanted to shoot my Garand.
