Does anyone have any recipes for 44 special that they've built around the Win 210gr STHP? I'm looking for ~800-1050fps range, but accuracy is most important.

If you've got recipes for any other 210gr JHP please feel free to share as well.

For accuracy I have not found anything that beats 700X in .44 Spl.

Does it work well with jacketed bullets? I know most folks use non-jacketed bullets with 44spl.

What .44 Spl are you shooting them in?

There is a lot of strength differance between an N-frame S&W and a Charter Arms Bulldog for instance.

I tested a lot with lead, but it does very well with the Remington 210 JHPs as well. I have a "pet" load with 700X and them. It's a light load that shoots well in my Bulldog and my 696. I have used anywhere from 4.0 to 4.8 Grs of 700X with various weights of lead bullets in .44 Spl. PM sent.

    Don't rule out Unique either.

The old Skeet Skelton load of a Keith 250 cast SWC and 7.5 Unique is very hard to beat accuracy & power wise.

I think the same charge with a 210 jacketed bullet would be mighty fine too.

I use 8.3 grains Unique with a 200 grain XTP in my 1950 Target and it's a good safe powerful load too.

Probably 8.0 grains Unique would be a great load with the 210 Winchester bullet.

NOTE: These are all over SAAMI max pressure, but are perfectly safe in any modern S&W .44 Special.

I'm actually using them in a 7.5" Ruger Super Blackhawk.

This is great to hear. My main purpose of wanting to go with the Win STHP's is the expansion and consistency. I'd like to use these rounds for HD. I know they say never to use reloads for defense, but the 44Spl is a great option for HD and finding good ammo for it is a snipe hunt.

Funny you should mention the Remington 210 JHP's. That's one of my favorite bullets! I would like to use the Remington's for practice loads since Win STHP's are so pricey. They're great bullets if Midway ever gets them back in stock again.

Darnit RC! I had my sights set on 700x and there you go bringing up Unique. :p I know you swear by Unique and 2400 - and 2400 is my favorite magnum powder.

Hmm... You guys both really know what you're talking about. I think I might have to try a pound of each and see how the dust settles.

With a Sierra 210 JHP I use Universal Clays.

Over the years I have loaded .44 Spl with Bullseye, 700-X, Red Dot, Green Dot, Clays, Titegroup, WW231, Unique, 2400, and probably some others I can't remember.

It's hard to find a powder that won't work pretty well in it.

As of the last 15 years or more, Unique is my goto powder in it and the .45 Colt.
    Old SKeeter weren't no fool!

But you can probably use whatever you have and come out pretty good.

Well, after a quick search around my local shops for 700x and Unique it seems like there are enough reloaders in Northern California to empty the shelves.

Checked Natchez and they've only got Unique in 8lb jugs. Midway has 700X and I've got to order from them today anyway. Looks like I'm giving 700X the first try. I'll let you guys know what I come up with.

Now if I could find some more primers...

Thanks again for you guys' help.

I've tried 700x,AA#5,AA#7 and Unique but my favorite powder for 200gr JHPs in .44spl is W-231, it shoots very accurately in my S&W 696.

That is my carry bullet with my 44 Special Ruger. I load 9.9 grs. of AA#5 for around 1000 fps. It is the most accurate load I have found with that bullet at that speed. Auto Comp is showing some good results with a 215 SWC from Magnus at 900 fps. I haven't tried it with a JHP yet, but I am loading up some tomorrow with 7.1 grs. of Auto Comp for around 900+ fps. I really like the WW STHP, very accurate.
