OK, May seem like a dumb question but here it goes!

I know the SXP series has some capability of swapping barrels say between a bird and slug barrel.
The question is I have a Winchester SXP Defender that I got a while back. Don't use it as much for home defense but it is still a backup. Can the barrels on this be swapped out so I can get multi-use out of it as a bird gun and defense when I want to? I have a 20ga slug gun that is very good but may be fun to try the rifled SXP barrel to see how much better I could be.

Is it only certain SXP lines that are able to have the barrels swap or is it more generic?
Thanks to anyone who can chime in!

The thing with the SXP is that Winchester, in their all knowing wisdom, decided to make a separate 4-shot and 5-shot model.
The 4-shots are usually all the sporting ones. Field, slug, etc.
The 5-shots are all the Defenders and the Camp/Field Combo.
The barrels between the two are not technically interchangeable because the lug on the barrel that slips over the magazine tube is in a different place.
I don't believe they make a slug barrel for the 5-shot defenders. They DO make a 28" field barrel for them that usually comes with the Camp/Field Combo.

However you can make a spacer that will allow you to use a 4-shot barrel ona 5-shot gun.
Here's a how to:

It's for using 870 barrels on a Pardner Pump, but the idea is the same here.
This will not work for using 5-shot barrels on a 4-shot gun however.

Thanks nickle,
Stumbled over that thread last night as well.
There seems to be a 26" barrel made especially for the SXP defender. Hard as all get out to find someone with one in stock.
There seems to be questions about whether that 28" barrel actually works for the defender version or not. I have seem both yes its works and no its not for the defender.

Further digging looks like the 26" uses the invector plus chokes so at least there is a way to make the defender with some options! Now to get the barrel and the chokes I need and get out and start practicing!
