Bought this as a Father's Day gift to me. Another iteration of the SXP, called the "Trench" model (for promotional purposes, I would imagine). Wooden furniture and heat shield. This also has a chrome lined bore and chamber, which must be something new for Winchester or maybe just unique to this model?

Think it would have been more "trenchy" if they'd included sling swivels. This is supposedly a limited edition, although there seem to be plenty of them out there.

Isn’t this a Turkish made gun? I know little about the design, but it certainly is... homely. The wood helps gussy it up a bit. I do agree it should have come with sling swivels, and a bayonet mount is mandatory for a proper “trench gun”.

The real question is how is reliability and durability. Will this hold up to the test of time? Turkey makes price point shotguns in a lot of cases, let’s be real here. But it could well be a good gun.

I applaud the tribute to the trench gun.

I wish the forend could have been shorter though since that is the longest corncob type forend I have ever seen. Trench gun or not.

Yes, this is part of the tidal wave of Turkish shotguns that seems to be swamping the market these days. The SXP has a slightly improved design over the old 1300 (so Winchester claims).

Not sure what the furniture is made from. Possibly Turkish driftwood?

The chrome-lined bore and chamber should help with corrosion resistance and ease of cleaning, I would think.

Seems trench guns are getting some attention lately.

Mossberg recently introduced their “Retrograde” line featuring wood furniture, heat shields, and bayonet lugs:

Add a GI style web or M1907 leather sling and you’ve got something much closer to a “real” trench gun considering the 590 and 590A1 guns have actually been combat tested in use by the U.S. military. It’s a gun that is proven tough and would last the rest of your grandkid’s lives, has an 8-round capacity instead of just 5, is made in the USA, and is well... not Turkish.

Nice attempt by Winchester at a wood stocked riot gun but I think for a little more money I would go with the Mossberg 590 Retrograde.

I think Winchester needs to go with the "Deluxe Package" that includes a couple khaki ammo pouches, a doughboy helmet, and a German-English dictionary :D

Maybe Im missing something, but it looks like you have to choose between a sling OR a bayo with that thing, based on the location of the swivel stud.....o_O

On the Mossy 590 (at least the ones I've seen), the back of the bayonet lug has an alternate threaded hold for a sling swivel that provides clearance for a sling mount on the mag cap.

That’s not the case even though it does seem like that:

The guns come with a screw in stud that mounts to the back of the bayonet lug.

What kind of bayonet is that? Is there such a thing as a "standard" bayonet, i.e. do all bayonets come with the same lug attachment fitting?

Agree. I don’t like forends that override the receiver when retracted

It’s an M7 bayonet. The M590A1 is a U.S. milspec shotgun, so pretty much any M16 series bayonet should mount.

I think the Winchester SXP is the best Turkish-made pump action shotgun. This is being sold as a Winchester with their full backing and warranty so they seem to be keeping a close eye on quality. There are so many of these third-tier companies importing Turkish guns and slapping a different name on them. In a year or two the importer decides they aren't making a profit worth the effort so they stop importing and now you cannot get parts, etc. Panzer, GForce, Citadel, LKCI Omega, SDS, Escort, Hatfield, ATI, Akkar, Radikal, and who knows how many more. They come and go so fast you can't keep up with all the names. At least with the Winchester SXP they are committed to the model and you can have reasonable confidence of customer support in the future if you need it.
