IMG_1406.JPG I did some searching and really didn't find to much on the forums but do any of you have any experience with their ARs more to the point their AR in 7.62x39,I did just buy one and put 56 rounds thru it with no issues then took it apart and checked things out,re assembled it and cycles fine,It's smooth. I am by no means a AR expert but I've been shooting them for 20 years or so but never really gotten into building them,if it's not broken don't fix it is they way I look at it.
I know the background on Windham and Bushmaster but just want input good or bad,I will be taking it back to the range on Monday and shoot it some more it's supposed to be 26 degrees out.

I bought this WW about a year ago and It has been a real work horse, no problems whatsoever. I Have built 6 other ar's of different calibers but they all work the same. I can say this is oneof the best ffactory built AR-15'S that I have seen that has everything that one would want and made of all the best materials that an AR could be made with. 2k plus rounds and not one hiccup, very accurate gun. I Think WW is Doing a very good job building these and the top notch components they are using. I have no complaints at all. Have you watched how they build them in the factory walk through on YouTube. you should watch it. If anything were wrong with the gun their quality control would catch it. Very good. No Corners Were Cut When they made mine. 20161214_211030.jpg

I'd be more interested with your review of it.

Most of the comments I see on x39 AR's is that there are repeated malfunctions, most of these (if they give any cause at all) will be reported to be the fault of the mag if it's loaded to full capacity because of the steep curve of the magazine which is due to the somewhat short/stubby ammunition.

So since that's always been a caliber that I've shot (just in different rifles) and in a rifle I like (AR's) and because that company (Windham) hasn't been around that long I figure eventually someone will do a review of it after they shoot the crap out of it.

To do a review worth anything the weather needs to change to Spring for me but I guess going out in the cold and running rounds thru it will have some value to how it handles the cold and with the mags I've always loaded my 30 rounders with 28 and my 20s with 18 and 10s with 9 and 5s with 5,it seems to cut down the FTF/FTE issues quite a bit. I do have some 10 rounders coming from C-Products witch should be here Monday then I'll go and freeze my butt off.

I have a Windham Weaponry MPC and its as good as my Bushmaster AR! They make the best AR's in the market bar none!

I had Bushmaster ARs long time ago and to tell the truth they worked fine with brass and steel case rounds and don't remember any big issues that weren't caused by me.

Should add that there seems to be a lot of folks that have negative things to say about Windham and how bad they are but never have shot one out on the range or let a lone handled one, sometimes opinions are just that opinions with no hands on experience.

My friends uncle said his cousin had a boyfriend who's girlfriends dad said they were junk so they must be junk right hahaha.

The thing is it you wouldn't need to put it out next week or even a month from now. To do a proper one you'd need to at least put a fair number of rds through it using a variety of brands testing for both accuracy and reliability. That all takes time. Kind of more like whenever you get around to it.

That's only if you have an interest in such things though and were likely going to do something like that yourself. Usually whenever I get a gun I've been wanting for awhile I'll do that sort of thing anyway just for my own edification, it's just a matter of me actually taking pictures, notes or video of the process I do each time and actually end up actually posting the info. Most guns are so well covered and been out so long that usually I won't bother simply because the information is usually so well covered by the time I end up getting into it. So the reviews I end up doing mostly end up being of slightly oddball guns, parts and gear like Sig single-action P220 .45's (just several hundred rds), a Stoeger M3K shotgun with some common 3-gun mods and a WMD Bolt Carrier Group (7,5000 rds over a couple years) to see if I felt that the NiB coating was worth the extra expense or stuff like that.

I'm just semi-anonymous stranger on the net though and I'm creating work for you, so I completely get it if there's no interest in making some extra effort to post your findings.

Exactly. That's exactly the sort of thing I've heard. It's never ... "I bought this rifle on Dec 12th 2016 for X amount of dollars, bought these mags from X company, fired 1,100 rds in it from 5 different companies and here are the groups at 50, 100, 150 and 200 rds and it had X amount of malfunctions in it at X number into the 30 rd mag and it was from this brand and grain weight ammo and it was a failure to feed ..." and so on.

It's just some second or third hand stuff that they often heard from the net themselves.

I dunno, just an idea. :Shrug

I'll do a review that's more geared to the average shooter, different mags, open sights, different ammo that's available to me and what wear I see so at least it will be better then nothing at all and hearsay.
I have read reviews from big magazines and such witch mean a lot but sometimes a review needs to be done by and for the occasional shooter.

seems the best ar 7.62x39 is the cmmg called the mutant that has a bigger bolt not a hogged out 5.56 bolt and the lower is made for AK mags.

Thanks for the info...mutant....Got a pic in my head of a big green turtle.

Update.....it's nice but twice the cost of the WW,I would need to save for a bit and that's tuff to do for me hahaha.

I have WW in 5.56. It has always been a good shooter and a reliable firearm. I typically suggest one anytime we have a "what ar should I buy" thread. I have no experience with one in x39. However, if it performs anything like mine you will have no regrets with your purchase,.

Just be aware that these AK mag lowers will not work with standard AR15 uppers. The upper receiver also needs clearances milled out for the AK mag to fit. Best to buy the compatible upper and lower receivers from the same mfg.

I figured that when you said you just wanted an upper. but now yo have a gun to drool over

thanks for the info but I figured that and also upper might need clearance for the bigger bolt

WW ARs are good to go!

My brother bought their sporter M4gery in 5.56 three years ago and it's rock solid.

I've been to their facility on business and they are, by all accounts, a great company.

I can't speak to their x39 offerings, as I have not experience or interest in them. But I will say that they have some very innovative, modular, quick caliber change kits that look interesting.

I have just over case of Yugo brass cased ammo left over from when I had a WASR 10 but now I'm looking into what steel case ammo works the best in the WW x39,think I have 15-20 boxes of Bear ammo in a box somewhere in my basement it's been awhile and I'm getting old hahaha,if I find it I'll try it out also,I did read that the Tiger gold 124 FMJBT has a statement that it's not for ARs or Mini 30 due to them haveing a weeker firing pin Spring but that can be changed if needed but I'm also under the impression that Windham is using a heavier firing pin Spring in their AR in 762x39,think that would be a givin.

Did anyone mention that Windham was once called...Bushmaster...and made very good reliable ARs with 4150 steel chrome lined barrels (likely from day one).

I use the ASC mags exclusively (prefer 20s) and shoot brass ammo exclusively (factory and reloads) in my Colt upper/RRA lower. If you shoot steel alot you may eventually break a bolt, so buy a spare (Superbolt if you can find one).

Good luck

M
