Is it legal to carry a CCW with a barrel shorter than 5.5''? Also, if you put a deer down with your regular firearm is it legal to finish the deer off with your CCW if it's not dead, agian this being with handgun of barrel length lesser than 5.5''?

You may want to check the wis dnr web site. http://dnr.wi.gov/ But last time I checked you can carry any handgun you want but cannot shoot a deer with it unless it is larger than 22 cal center-fire and has barrel of at least 5.5".

Yes, you can carry legally carry any handgun but if you use it to shoot a deer and you put your gun tag on it, it had better be legal to hunt with, even if it's just coup de grâce. Just like when you trail a wounded deer and come upon it after shooting hours and it's still alive. You can cut it's throat legally to end it's suffering, but if you use your gun or bow, you're in violation.

I dont know about WI but here in MI it would be legal to do in rifle season but not in bow season. IN bow season you can carry a ccw but cant use it to harvest game in any way.

The nice thing here in Wisconsin is the availability to chat with a DNR representative on their website and get an answer to any questions you have almost intermediately.

Go to http://dnr.wi.gov/ click on contact and then click on chat.
