I am going to get a .40 for USPSA Limited Major and Steel Challenge and have it down to the Witness Match (4.75") or XDM in 5.25". My basic question is which is more accurate?? I own both a 9mm XD and a .45acp target witness ported plus many other semi autos such as M&Ps and 1911s. I have not yet shot an XDM but would like any input on how the trigger compares to the XD, 1911 and Witness if anyone could comment. Any other comparasons between the two would be greatly appreciated.

I have all three. My XD breaks last and my 1911 and Match have about the same trigger break.

The Match is a great piece tied with my Dan Wesson really. For competition most go to the EAA Limited but it is more of a race gun.

I cannot vouch for the XD, the only Croatian I have owned was its granddaddy the PHP. But I have owned the Match, and it had a wonderful single-action trigger that you could adjust. The grip fit me like they used my hand as the template for its shape. The Match will be nicer than the Target Ported, but much of that will be in finish, those Target Ported pistols are nice.

You cannot get a better, perhaps not even an equal, pistol than a Match for the same price in my opinion.

I used to use a Witness Match in .40 for IDPA, the trigger of course is much better than the XDM (I have an XD Tactical, XDM 4.5" and XDM 5.25" in 9mm). So although I love the XD platform for pure accuracy the Witness Match beats them with no problem. Having said that, the gun only needs to be accurate enough, and the XDM is that. I'm also a bit faster with the XDM's on the first shot which makes a difference when you are as slow as I am, I can't count the XDM split times as being faster because that is due to the 9mm vs. .40.

I don't think you'd be un happy with either, the Match is a much more accurate pistol for me, and the XDM is slightly faster to shoot.

Hhmmm....Well, I had some interest in the XD competition model (5.25" barrel), so I went to the XD forum to research it. Consensus seems to be it's one of the best shooting guns out of the box...but the trigger was reported to be horrible for something that's billed to be a competition pistol. Most of the guys on the XD forum have changed out the trigger for an after-market one from 1 of about 3 manufacturers.

That killed whatever interest I had in the pistol.--Patrice

The drop in trigger kits are fairly inexpensive and make a huge difference. Out of the box the XDM's trigger needs to be broken in before it becomes acceptable for target use.

While I can't say for certain that the mechanical accuracy would be better (though I suspect it is), it is most likely that you will shoot the Witness Match better.
