Woah, is this AR worth it?

I Paid 699 +tax for my AR and this.. Is literally almost identical what mine came with. The upper receiver is different then mine but man, if you wanna get into AR's... i would jump on this!!

A .223 is a .223 and an AR-15 is an AR-15 no matter how u look at it. Im not familiar with the brand but shoot... its not even 700 bucks! Its worth it in my opinion!

del-ton.com

check their site out first, and look at their 'rifle kits' section. You can basically order all of the gun except the lower, choose from multiple options (choose different or upgraded parts, triggers, handguards, etc.), and just assemble it all on a lower yourself.

depending on your needs, you could get the same rifle minus the mag and the cleaning kit (and I guess the warranty) for 100 bucks less than what it would cost to get the one off of AIM.

I had one of their midlength kits, and it worked great. For the money, you get a good gun.

That all depends on what you intend to do with it. As an entry level, plinker / range gun they're a great value.

If you're looking for a serious defensive carbine you may want to step up to a higher end AR. You can also take the Del-Ton you linked, add a BCM (Bravo Company), or LMT high pressure tested (HPT), magnetic particle inspected (MPI or MP) bolt carrier group (BCG); and stake the receiver extension yourself if isn't already - that's just if you intend to run it hard.

Many folks also like the CMMG Bargain Bin rifles for $600 - http://cmmginc.secure-mall.com/shop/?cart=1882810&cat=161& - and some folks do the above listed upgrade & modification on those.

Again, it really depends on what you want to do with it, and what you're expecting from an AR-15.

Anymore, that does look like a decent price for an AR. However, I would disagree with the "an AR is an AR" attitude. It's like saying "a house is a house" or "a car is a car." I realize not everyone can afford the big house on the hill or the Cadillac, but it is one more thing to consider.

To answer your question YES! and so is the one in that link.

The Del-Ton does come with a case, mag, sling and cleaning kit...

Also look for a DPMS Sprotical: http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/36_793/products_id/200212

Buds price has shipping included. Also the DPMS comes with 2 D&H 30 round mags, sling, cleaning kit and hard case. I own one and it has been very reliable and accurate.

Also, with any of these you will need a rear sight or optic of some sort. Inexpensive carry handles or rear sights can be had under $50. For a good scope or red dot $100 at least.

EDIT consider the fact that the DPMS and DEL-TON will have a full manufacturer warranty, and the Bargain Bin will not. ( Don't think I'm knocking any of them. ) I have fired both bargain bin and Sportical and both have proved perfectly capable of their intended purpose!

Also note, the Sportical from DPMS is lacking the forward assist, shell deflector, and dust cover.

I bought 2 of the Bargin Bins last year.
Both function Flawlessly.
Maybe one day I might spring for a more "upgraded" model, But for entry level or a range plinker, you'll be happy.

Got one and don't miss either one of those one bit. Some people even like the cleaner appearance better without them. With the other six Ar's I have I have never used the forward assist once.

I've never used the forward assist either. I believe quality ammo and a clean quality gun negate the average shooter from ever having to use it. However, the shell deflector is nice, and in some area's (such as the high desert of Utah) the dust cover is a must for me as the wind can carry a lot of crap that I don't want getting in my rifle when out shooting.

For an extra $70 I rather have a brand new gun with warenty over something "used, might work might not" deal. Thats asking for problems even if it does work at the beginning. Still thank you for all the links, I appreciate looking through different weapons and figuring out which one is the best for me.

BTW in Arizona I think the dust cover is going to be a must as well

Looks like a pretty good deal for a basic AR. Del-ton makes pretty decent ARs and have great service. :)

I would buy the Del-Ton kit for $465 and a stripped lower for $100 or so and build. That's what I did. It's really fun to build an AR. Of course, who knows how backed up Delton is with orders.

AZAviator,
If this is your first foray into AR's, it's an excellent starter gun. As long as you don't plan on carrying it to war or running it through a tactical carbine class, it will work great and the price is a stellar deal. I say go for it.

I like the dpms model, becuase specifically it comes with the pencil bbl, which has been tough to get, ever since the a2's came out. you still manage to see a pencil bbl now and again, but usually on older, colt sp-1 stuff, that is major expensive. So I am deff diggin the dpms version...

I "built" my first AR a year ago with a DPMS lower and a DEL-TON light weight carbine upper, it has the pencil barrel and I love it! I finished mine for a couple dollars over $500 including an optics mount, a cheap holo sight, and a sling plate.:neener:
It has been a great little carbine, it's light, fast, accurate, and so far not one hicup after about 600 rounds.

This is this! It's not something else, it's this!

Don't pull it if you don't plan to use it, and don't use it if you don't plan to kill!
