in case any one interested or didnt know cheaper than dirt countersales and catalog sales has it at around 4.50 a box of 20
 
I refuse to do business with CTD. Call it principal... Call it stupidity... Whatever.

I can honestly say I wouldn't buy it from them for $1.00 per box of 20.
 
I would buy WOLF on ONE condition,

and that's if I can't get Silver/Brown/Golden Bear or Barnual ammo.

Wolf is the absolute bottom of the barrel amongst cheap steel cased ammunition, other brands are far far superior
 
I ran 500 rounds of Wolf .223 through a Saiga .223, not one problem at all. I would purchase Wolf ammo anytime.
 
Never had a single problem with Wolf in 20 years. Cabelas has it for $229 a case and offered free shipping last week. My order of 5000 rounds arrived Friday:) I will shoot it with confidence.
 
I've had no problems whatsoever with Wolf in my AK, my Ruger Mini-30 is another story. That is Ruger's fault though.
 
I have shot many hundreds of rounds of Wolf in 7.62X39 and 9mm. Most recently I used 500 rounds of 9mm Wolf through handguns and carbines, no problems. Just expect spending a few extra minutes cleaning your guns.

I agree with this.

While I've never had a failure to fire with Wolf, I have used my scoped and free-floated 7.62x39 AR and my more accurate SKS' to compare the accuracy of Wolf FMJ and HP to Barnual, Silver Bear, Golden Tiger and S&B. Barnual was the most accurate. The Wolf was dead last by a large margin in all the guns. Sometimes you can even feel the velocity difference from round to round.

Now I haven't bought or shot Wolf in about 3 years at least, so maybe their QC has gotten better, but somehow I doubt that.

But if you're just banging ammo through your AK to light your handguards on fire, then go for it.
 
I shoot Wolf through my Norinco SKS with no issues at all. It's inexpensive ammo, and perfectly fine if you just want to bang out some rounds on the cheap.

Now, I have to do some more research on why people don't like CheaperThanDirt. Their prices on ammo seem pretty high, especially for mail-order, but some of their other accessories are priced reasonably. I've never ordered anything from them however. Off to the search function I go...

I'd reserve that description for lead-core, copper-washed Norinco, but that's no longer imported. That stuff makes Wolf black-box (Tula) look like Lapua.

I'm personally rather partial to the Wolf Military Classic 122gr JHP, which is manufactured at Ulyanovsk instead of Tula, and uses the excellent 8M3 "Sapsan" JHP with a much thinner jacket than typical Russian production. This is one of the few Russian JHP's that will reliably fragment in gelatin.
 
If you see it in the catalog, I would check the website, I think that CTD was the place a bunch of people as they called when they got ammo in and said we can ship your back ordered ammo but this is the new price.

If it in the catalog, it is probably the wrong price. They were the place with $60 .380, yes more than a dollar a round for range ball.
 
If I remember correctly, they had lake city .223 62gr steel core for $799/1000 at one point

But honestly, I don't blame CTD and am back to buying from them now that their prices are normal again. It's supply vs. demand, and I blame every panic buying fool who thought the Obama Youth would go door to door and scoop up their guns on January 21st.

Disagree on this one...CTD would not take a cut on their bottom line, as many of us did... just to keep it fair and the customers happy and spending money with us.

Price gouging goes on with anything that is in demand, but this doesn't make it right...and a company that gouges its customers to make that extra buck should be boycotted.
 
I've bought from CTD a few times and cringe whenever I do. AIM Surplus is usually the first place I look, followed by Widener's. I'll always reward customer service with my business.

As to Wolf, I've never had a problem with 7.62x39, .223 or 9mm. I'll usually run 9mm through my P85 due to it being cheap. I'll run .223 also due to the price after verifying my reloads.
 
I got wolf 223 that I shoot in my Arsenal works just fine. Most of the time wolf works pretty good though it is not match grade. I haven't tried the wolf gold so I cannot comment on that. The only problem I had with wolf is when I got a bad lot of 9mm. I had three boxes out of this lot and I got three squibs. It's actually the reason I have a brass rod now. Other than that being dirty that was the only problem I have had with it.
 
I should mention that I ripped the rim off of a .223 case though this was the fault of my reloads, not the Wolf. I underloaded a set which dumped alot of carbon into the chamber. When I switched to the Wolf, it stuck in the chamber.
 
I must say that it makes me giggle a little, to watch people argue about the quality of various imported Russian ammo, I mean, MY reason for getting an SKS was to be able to burn cheap ammo en bulc through a decent rifle without breaking the bank or worrying about babying it.

Having said that, Silver Bear has worked very well for me, and I prefer it, but most of the time, Wolf is all I can find anyway.

I run Wolf through my Lancaster AK. Never a problem. Of course, when I shoot my AK it is for fun and not for precision shooting. But nothing beats blasting watermelons or coconuts.

+1 and I live a scant 4 miles from their store. CTD was among the worst of the scalpers who artificially inflated their ammo prices for HUGE profits at the expense of their customers. They showed that they do not value their customers and have no problem making an unfair profit while using scare tactics (get it now, we may never be able to get more in!) and hosing the public in the process. Just about 5 miles away, Military Gun Supply continued to sell the same ammo at reasonable prices throughout the entire ammo scare. Even today, MGS's prices for ammo beat the pants off CTD. I'll drive the extra 10 minutes to shop at Military Gun Supply and CTD can kiss my butt!
