Looks to be a Henry Mini-Bolt in .22LR.

It's a very small stainless steel single-shot youth rifle. IIRC, the cocking piece is even independant from the bolt, and has to be cocked seperately for additional safety. It also comes with "tru-glow" style fiber optic lit sights.

Here, found an auction on one... http://www.gunsamerica.com/guns/976368482.htm

Hope there's not some kid out there who's birthday or Christmas present got turned into a suicide gun. :(

This is the gun my littlest likes the most. Only problem was she had a little trouble cocking it. She did like how easy it was to work the bolt because working the bolt doesn't require compressing the striker spring.

Shoot yourself with it? Doesn't sound like a suicide attempt, sounds like a bonehead mistake.

BTW: My wife saw the cops and reporters outside the hospital when she drove by. Asked me about it last night but I hadn't heard about it until today. Funny. Too bad he didn't remove himself from the gene pool. That's pretty incompetent that you can't even kill yourself if you want to!

Hey, I just had a great idea. I'm going to bid on this rifle when it comes up for auction! That's a gun with a national story behind it, you don't stumble on those that often! It'll be a great gift for my daughter! Look, a famous gun!

Closer shot:
