I'm looking for some plans to make a nice looking wooden gun vise. Cabelas and several others sell a nice one but they're pretty proud of them and besides I need a new project. Do any of you have a set of plans or know where I can get some?
Thanks
Bob

Yeah...

my wife considers guns one ofmy vice's

Poor guy...new member and we're giving him grief. Never mind us...it's a goofy time of the year

We've got one we use at our store all the time...home-made. Base is a 2x10, about 30" long. Got another 8" piece of 2x10 screwed on at a right angle and covered with carpet to hold the muzzle end....actually just a soft "bench" for the front of the gun. The buttstock is held by two pieces of 2x4 about 5" apart. There's a bolt threaded into a nut that's countersunk into one of the 2x4's, and has a swivel on the end covered with carpet so it doesn't mar the buttstock but clamps it tight against tthe 2x4 on the othere side .

It's been used thousands of times. Cheap and it works.

Been quite awhile so going on memory here ...Didn't Popular Mechanics have plans for such? IIRC they,or someone similar, posted plans for vices, wooden clamps, framing clamps and like. Reminded me of the old wooden tools and the like my grandfolks would have made, still very useful and serve a purpose...I'd search Popular Mechanics and "woodworking tools".
