WooHoo!! Wife had a bad dream

Why is this good you ask??
She had a very bad dream about someone trying to snatch the baby (our youngest, 6 months old) in which she had a gun and plugged mr bad guy to protect the boys. She has traditionally been lukewarm about guns in general and a CCW in particular but yesterday after relating the details of her dream to me she asked me to arrange for a training class with regards to CCW/shooting skills. Finally the message has sunk in and I will be contacting a local certified instructor this week and starting the process of getting her ready for a CCW!

Now I just need to get her out to some Cowboy Action matches and convince her that the competition is good "practice."

The same thing happened to me. My GF was HARSHLY anti-gun, but she had a dream that people were attacking her so she started acing them with a shotgun and saved the day... Interesting that my first new shotgun came home with me the next week. haha

I guess that the subliminal tape that you played after she went to sleep actually worked!

It's good that she wants to get familiar. With the best possible intent, I suggest that when you arrange for an instructor, let him or her do the job without you second guessing. I'm not saying you would, but I have seen it often and when the confusion sets in, many new shooters (especially female), tend to just call it quits. Good luck.

I'm guessing that a combination of environmental factors and more importantly good ole motherly instinct to protect offspring kicked in.

Most females have that instinct - it just has to be awakened.

Definately staying out of of the whole training side of things. I learned my lesson when I tried to teach her about computers where I found that she is as bull headed as I if not more so (I am normally a good teacher, just not with her). I won't even be at the range when she goes for her training, I'm staying home with the kids. I'll just wait until she gets home to enjoy the "OMG that was fun" grin on her face!

Well... I helped. I have for some time now been sending her links to self defense stories with happy endings. Mostly focusing on women defending themselves and their families with the occasional regular joe type story thrown in. I try not to overwhelm her with them, it's more a slow steady approach than a bury her in paper approach. When she was pregnant with our newest child I was able to get her to agree to take a safety course sometime after he was born just to be familiar with the guns we have in our house. I haven't pushed it since she agreed because I didn't want to pressure her as it has to be her decision. After her dream though she brought up the subject of getting the course and learning more about self defense.

More details on the dream:
In the dream she is shopping with the children at the supermarket when she notices a man who is paying an inordinate amount of attention to her and the kids and following her from aisle to aisle (situational awareness, YAY!!). She moves toward the front of the store to get nearer to service desk, etc. BG grabs our 6 month old out of the cart and starts to run. At this point my wife reaches down and pulls out a pistol from an ankle holster (amazing detail in this dream, and a bit unusual that she dreamed having a solution to her problem). She shoots the BG in the leg to keep him from escaping with our son and then advanced on him in order to retrieve our son while keeping the BG covered (again with the situational awareness). After that she woke up a little shaky/concerned.

Not bad for a dream, eh? I would have a problem with shooting at him while he is holding my son but if it's a choice between that and having him get away with my child I think it is an acceptable risk. Besides, she shot for the lower half of his body away from the baby to minimize risk. So I'll be getting her not only the general gun/safety class but the CCW training as well. Next I need to convince her that Cowboy Action Shooting is a fun hobby/great way to practice.

My ex was a BIG "anti" - so much that she told me if I bring a gun into our home she was moving out.

Well, it didn't end our relationship - something/someone else did that.

When she finally moved out - I helped her pack. Next day - started looking for a gun.

Won't have to worry about her EVER trying to come "crawling back".

Current "better" half - Not a "gun nut" and doesn't necessarily show the same interest in carrying that I do, but does occasionally shoot with me. Pretty sure though if she was alone in my home and SHTF with her life or the life of another loved one in imminent danger, her response to the intruder/BG would be:

BANG!

Very interesting. Interesting in that the guns in these ladies' dreams are effective and work.

I've heard that a common dream amongst people who depend on guns in their work is that the things don't work or are ineffective on the bad guy. At least it is that way in my bad dreams.

Supposedly Freud related that type of dream to fear about sexual impotency.
