When you hear "Colt .45" do you think SAA .45LC or 1911 .45 ACP?

I've always think SAA and I'm starting to think I'm the oddball because it appears most think of a 1911. I'm always young which seems to further exasperate the issue (my generation prefers black plastic and at least semi-auto it appears)

Personally when I hear Colt .45, I think malt liquor - when I hear .45 Colt, I think of an SAA or other revolver in .45 Long Colt, and when I hear .45ACP or .45 or .45 Auto, I think 1911.

Actually if we're talking rap song I think @Rail Drivers answer is more appropriate. :neener:

    I think SAA.

In Hank Williams Jr.'s "A Country Boy Can Survive", he says:
    To which I think 1911 :)

    I'm a younger, almost exclusively semi-auto shooter but just because I reload ... Colt .45 is a catridge, not a pistol. 8)

Actually, the 'right' answer is Ruger Blackhawk convertible. (I don't know how to do the smiley waving its fingers at you ;) ).

Us old farts have been calling the SAAs Colt 45's since the 1970s when they first started, so if you young pups now want to misapply it to the 1911 45ACP, you are just wannabees and no doubt jealous because you missed out on the true golden age of the gun. :neener:

    (I voted SAA)

I'm pretty sure SAA's were around well before the 70's - I stand by my vote of "malt liquor"

When I hear ".45 Colt" I take that to be a reference to .45 Long Colt, the cartridge.
When I hear "Colt .45" I take that to be a reference to a Colt Single Action Army.

    You left out "Both"

    1873

Yes, a cartridge, but you know what was meant.

But your point is well taken. Most people think of the S&W Model 19 when .357 Magnum is named, but the first commercially produced gun for that cartridge was the Model 27/28.

To answer the question in the original post. The first thing I think of is the question, "Which .45 do you mean, the Colt M1873 revolver or the Colt 1911 Semi-Auto?"

Even though I have never in my life drank it - given the phrase used, I go straight to Billy Dee Williams too... Smoooooth!

Now, ".45 Colt" - my mind goes .45 Long Colt and SAA types.

    However, "45", "a .45", "I got a .45", "are we takin' .45s?" and I'm thinking 1911.

When I hear "Colt 45" I first think "Houston Astros" (originally named "Houston Colt .45s").

Another vote for Malt Liquor being the first to mind, and this from a Teetotaler.

When I hear .45 Colt I think revolver.

When I hear .45 ACP I think Thompson, THEN 1911.

SAA. I'm a product of too many western movies as a kid.

Just got an SAA-type, though it's in .357. And (eeek!) stainless. Real purty, but I felt like I was picking up a painted woman in a low bar.
