If I were hunting species of the Cervidae family (deer) in North America and were able to get within 200 yards for a confident heart/lung shot, do you think a 160 - 170 gr .308 diameter RNSP with a terminal velocity in the 1600 - 1700 fps range work ? Would that penetrate deer hide?

Seriously??

Of course it would.

You are talking classic 30-30 Winchester ballistics at 200 yards.

And that caliber has killed enough deer in the last 100 years to fill the Grand Canyon.

RC you need to cut a guy some slack, if he doesn't know he's trying to learn, and if he's a troll then he came to the wrong site, but he is from New York, and maybe not a gun guy.

Nope, it'll bounce right off. You need at least a .338Lapua to kill whitetail. I know because I read it on the internet. ;)

He's got 480 posts, and I've seen him around here... Don't see many non-gun guys with that many posts lol...

OP... yeah, that bullet would penetrate the hide, but I can't say as to whether it would mushroom and perform as it should, at those velocities. They seem slow to me, but then, I'm comparing that to standard .308/.30-06 velocities for a 165grn bullet, which are usually 2700-2900 FPS.

Fella's;

And, regardless of his handle, he lists his location as Westchester Colorado. Though that is a town that's a bit hard to find. There is a Westchester Drive in Colorado Springs, so that may be germane.

However, he has left plenty of room for doubt about what state he's in, which could also bear upon the perception of integrity of his question.

Ok - so can we therefore all agree henceforth and forthwith etc., etc that THE 30-30 WILL KILL ANYTHING IN THE CONTIGUOUS 48 STATES and be done with all nonsense to the contrary? :neener:

Please. ;)
