Would you buy a gun with someone else's initials?

I have a S&W model 28 that apparently was a police gun. There is a place on the frame where an inventory number had obviously been engraved and then removed. It was $200 and in great condition, so I was content to overlook the cosmetic issue. It is a fantastic shooter.

I forgot to add to my previous post that I have a Winchester Model 1897 trench gun that has the initials "RPH" stamped on the bottom of the receiver. It doesn't bother me, but I would sure like to know if they are from a private company, police department or a government agency.

At a guns show awhile back, I saw a Ruger single six, the older 3-screw model, in great shape except someone had etched a birthdate in the butt of it; looked like a dremel tool. The guy sold it for $100 under the typical selling price for that model. The buyer felt good about having a shooter for not much money. I would ahve bought it, had the other guy not done so.

It seems half the wimmens these days have tattoos on them.. probably some initials in there somewhere. Personally, an engraved gun wouldn't bother me.

Would you consider buying a gun that had some initials carved into it, or some other means of personalization that was permanent and obviously not yours?
My glib answer: Only if I was going to commit a crime & expected that gun to be found.

My serious answer: Depends on the gun, my intended purpose and the price.
