Would You buy a Moisin?

I have a 1942 M38 carbine, and it is wonderful. All matching numbers on the metal, but a refurb M44 stock, and the barrel has been counterbored. I get 3.5 inch groups at 100 yards with Wolf ammo. Now that incredibly geneous people are stting me up into reloading, I will start handloading for this little Russian gem. Aztec still has M44s for $49.95 - at that price, can you afford not to have one? They won't be cheap forever - remember the $50 SKS rifles?
The 7.62x54R is the longest serving round in the world, having gone into service in the late 1880s, and is still in service today.....

My Mosin is my HDR right now, as I can't afford anything else. I am confindent that I can easily take a man sized target up to 200 yards with open sights. The Czech Silvertip corrosive suplus ammo is also equipped with a mild steel core....
Maybe I look goofy next to the guys with FALs and ARs, but my 62 year old Russian friend does quite well. Do remmber to clean the chamber area VERY well, preferably with a drill chucked brush, as the old cosmo has set in every little crevice, and with firing the steel case laquer coated surplus ammo, creates a condition known as sticky bolt. http://www.russian-mosin-nagant.com/Sticky_bolt.htm Good info here.
Here you go - strong women like Mosins....

YES! Everyone should have one :) or more.

If you want only one the Finnish 39's are a great one to have if you want so shoot it a lot.

The Russians are great. However, they are either a bit short (hard recoil for me) or way too long (91). The Fins really made a better rifle from the Russian's idea.

That being said though. They Russians are real cheap and are great guns. Just depends what you're into and what you want it for.

Well... You all talked Me into it...

Went to the store today and got Myself a M44!
All serials match and it was made in 1944 at the Izhevsk factory. Appears to be in great condition. Still checking out the web sites mentioned in this thread for more info. The rifle came with an ammo pouch and oiler, cleaning rod was under the barrel. Just have to get a cleaning kit, sling, etc.
Wish I could have gotten the prices I've heard about around the country, but around here they can't be had for less than a hundred dollars. Including the shows. So, in the end I paid a hundred. But that's fine with Me. Picked up a couple of boxes of new production ammo too.
Hmmm...maybe I should apply for My C&R...
I'd like to go to the range tomorrow, but have to make some last-minute preparations for the "possible" hurricane problem. There's always next weekend. Once I take it out, I'll let everyone know how it shoots.
A big thanks to everyone for their input on this. :D
