Got me curious as to how the Glock 43X and 48 are going to affect not only future sales, but the value of the G26. IMO, the 43X and the 48 are far superior to, and way more ergonomic than, the 26. Easier to shoot well, and flatter and more concealable, too.
Must be perception and personal likes. I doubt the 26s are going anywhere.
Ive had 26's for a long time and never found them to be "big". I bought a 42 when they first came out and that confirmed to me, the 26's werent going anywhere. Swore I wasnt going to buy a 43 and still ended up with two.
After playing with them awhile, I no longer have a 42 or 43, and carry my 26's in the exact same places as I would have carried the others.
I think the 26's are a very misunderstood and underrated gun. They are a lot more versatile than the single stacks, as they can use any of the larger mags. They also shoot very much like the larger guns, and dont move around as much in your hand while shooting, compared to the smaller guns. The 42 and 43's shoot very well too, but they lack that mag compatibility and capacity. That slight difference in thickness is really nothing.
I suppose a lot of it is what you know and get used to too. I know a lot of people dont like their pinkie hanging off the grip, and like to add the extensions to make up for it. All that does is make the gun bigger, which defeats the whole purpose of it being smaller. Once you learn to wrap your pinkie under the mag, it gives a very comfortable and solid grip. I shot my 42's and 43's the same way I shoot my 26's, with the pinkie wrapped under.
Those extensions can be a real bitch on your hands when you shoot too, and especially when you try and reload quickly. My hand used to get pinched a lot while shooting with them, and Ive had some pretty nasty blood blisters from them on reloads. If you have to reload, it just makes a lot more sense to use a 17 mag too.
