As much as I like the WSSM cases for the 6.5wssm, it seems like the case supply is GONE.
Can't find anything other than the outrageous prices on GB or the like.
NOT gonna pay $2+ a case for winchester brass -ain't gonna do it.
Getting stuck buying a new bolt for the .223 length receiver and re-barreling is not a choice for the money -heck, buy a used decent rifle in a normal caliber (is a much better use of the cash.
I do believe the WSSM chambered rifles are dead (to me) and worthless without brass.
Score one for Winchester, just like the SAUM from Remington.
But I do have PLENTY of brass for the SAUM.
I think I have learned my lesson from the Big 2 in North America.
Im out, don't ever ask me to buy into the bs about a new caliber without a FIRM ( and notarized statement) to the fact you WILL support this newfangled round for 15 years.............

I'll buy your non-shot-out barrels for 20$, shipped --they're still good for rechambering, at least :p

Folks are having problems locating common rifle brass for quite a while now.

M

That's the problem. Lots of places list it. Few if any have it.

I have an AR chambered in .358 WSSM. I make it from .24 necked up. Fortunately I bought 150 when I got it. Enough for now but you sure don't wanna lose any.

I'd contact GreTan rifles and ask about reworking the bolt face to get to another caliber.

With WSSM caliber rifles selling for pennies on the dollar, why not go for it and get into a BR or PPC caliber.....

Well, the WSSM's use the same bolt face as the WSM's right, so If worse comes to worst, maybe you could rebarrel to a WSM without having to pay for a new bolt, or significant bolt rework. In fact, if you're shooting a 6.5 WSSM out of a regular short action, maybe you could just rechamber to 6.5 WSM. At least you wouldn't lose the use of a rifle.

The WSSM rifles used a special super short action that's almost certainly too short for a regular WSM. It's worth measuring just to be sure, but the odds aren't good.

Ah, I didn't know about the different action size... That is unfortunate.

Seen any 257 Roberts brass?

I haven't

I was going to say, you could pay scalper prices on Gunbroker, but it turns out, no 6.5 WSSM there either.

I've been able to pick up a couple hundred 257 Roberts cases over the last year. Nosler is still producing them apparently with some regularity. Pricey, but very good cases.

(not that this helps the OP on his quest for WSSM brass)

The 6.5 WSSM is a wildcat. It's unlikely that you'll find any brass ready made anywhere. It could be made from the commercial WSSM brass, if only it could be found.

It might be possible to convert these rifles to 500 S&W.

There's also a place that converts them to short, large bullet wildcats based on the RAUM brass. The result is a fast handling thumper. Worth thinking about.

Any of you guys want to sell off your model 70 223 WSSM for pennies let me know.

I'd just yank the barrel and get a 300 BLK barrel cut for it. .223 bolt face and you're in business. The short action doesnt hurt anything. I'd love a Model 70 in 300 BLK.

Agreed!

If you are a wildcatter, and that's your passion, good for you.
You, are just like, the classic car re builders who will never get back out what you have put into it. (unless you don't think your time is worth anything)
I understand where you are comming from, and can appreciate it. If you are a firearms mfg, and you want to make, what is in effect, a wildcat round, by mainstream standards, that's fine, but you better also own an ammunition manufacturer if you want it to be successful in the long run.
Think RIA .22 TCM, and armscor, or .204 ruger an hornady.
I would really like to try the .22 TCM in 1911 form, but will stick with arms that use a diet of commonly manufactured ammo. With the prices, which all ammo is commanding, why would any ammo mfg in it's right mind tool up to produce a factory invented wildcat round............Yeah, I do hear the usual,.....Maybe Norma will make a batch. Maybe, .... but not for cheap, and I think that is reasonable, all things considered. . . . . not cheap, and rightly so. As the OP, beretta shotgun, has discovered. We all live and learn. You should just buy a good used rifle in a common caliber, and sell your troubles to a newbie. . . . . .
Just kidding, I think you should bite the bullet on the brass, and except it for what it is, don't plink with it.....conserve by not loading to throat cutting, blazing speeds. If speed is the order of the day, than don't be cheap about it, that was your call!

I would consider a 300 BLK a pretty poor substitute for what I use my .223 WSSM for.
