WTK: opinions on SA's 1911 TRP

I need to get your opinions on the Springfield Armory TRP - Tactical Response Pistol in .45 ACP (of course!). I may have the opportunity at getting a very good deal on one that is NIB. I've handled it already and even though I don't know if I'm too excited about the 20 LPI checking on the front strap... the rest of it feels great!

I don't think price is going to be an issue if they come in where I'm hoping they do... so, anything else I should be thinking about? Do these models, the TRP's, have a good or bad reputation? Anyone own one? What do you think of it?

My good friend recently got one. I LIKE it. It's a very cool gun, and shoots great. So far, with maybe around 600-800 rounds thru it, it has been flawless. It is a great looking and feeling gun. I actually have not experienced the front strap stippling, because he put on one of those rubber finger groove things that fit under the grips, before he shot it. It's very comfortable with one of those, though it does add a little thickness to the grip.

Overall, it's a great gun, and if I had the money to burn, I would buy one.

Also, the owner of the local gun store's son has one. Everyone in the store loves his. They weren't trying to sell me one, as they didn't have any, but they couldn't shutup about how great it was, and how much they loved to shoot it.

I really like it. Everything has really smoothed out a lot on it, and the overall workmanship seems great. The finish is good, and everything smooths out great with use.

If you follow 1911Tuner's magic slurry, I would imagine it would be even better. (He never bothered doing that).

It seems to shoot very accurately. (My friend isn't the best shot, and it still makes him look good. )

He was shooting ragged holes in his targets a few days ago from 10 yards or so.

If you can get a good deal, I'd buy it for sure.

As it turns out, the deal they offered wasn't so great afterall. So I declined. I was going to do a partial trade for a SA 1911 Loaded model that I have (plus cash) for the TRP. I've decided to sell the Loaded model anyway as I'm just not that excited about it.

I want to buy a loaded at some point. I don't think I will be able to bring myself to pay around 1200 for a gun. (That's what he payed for his, off gunbroker, NIB). Are you selling it for any reason, besides just not being excited about it?

There are several reasons actually...

• It shoots about 2" low with the 230 gr ball ammo I use. I spoke with SA today and they said I could send it back and they'd fix it. I'd just have to pay shipping both ways.
• I don't like the thumb safety.
• I thought I'd like the mag well, but I don't really like it afterall. My other 1911 doesn't have one and I don't think I'll get any more 1911s that have it.
• I'm getting married in two weeks and need the money!
• I decided that instead of having yet another .45 I should be buying a chronograph, shot timer and more ammo.

That's strange that you would have to pay shipping both ways.

Does POA=POI with any ammo? Or is it low with everything?

You do know the TRP's have magwells right?

I've only fired it with 230 gr ball ammo... both factory and my own loads. I get the same results. Haven't tried anything else. Re: the magwells on the TRP - yep, I know about that, but for some reason that one just seems "nicer".

As far as the shipping goes... well, I'm not the original owner so I guess they won't cover the shipping. Although the gal at customer service (who was very pleasant I might ad) said that they don't check that so if I were to call back and speak with someone else and not tell them that I'm not the original owner, they might cover it afterall... of course I had already opened my big mouth about buying it used. Mr. Honest ya know!

I'll be glad when the "planning" is over.
