I am trying to find a suitable tactcial flashlight that runs on AA batteries. The goal is to weapon mount it to a AR-15's front rails. Since The new Aimpoint M4 runs on AA and I want to stock only 1 type of battery. There are great lights out there but almost all run on CR123. Although I did find a few that comes close to what I need but their operation are too complex for tactcial need (too many modes or methods of operation). Is there a flashlight out there that runs on AA, have a simple click on/off tailcap, and is tactical capable (strong light + good battery life + water/shock resistant)? Or am I asking to much?

Fenix mode of operation?

Thanks for the help guys, It looks like Fenix L2T might be the answer but got one question though. How does the click switch work? Is it a simple on/off or will it cycle modes on me when I turn it on and off? I am asking this because in my search I bought a Fenix L2D and the flashlight cycle mode on me everytime I clicked it on and off. It cycle to strobe mode every four time, way too confusing for tactical use. An help is greatly appreciated.

the L2T has hi-low modes by the turn of the bezel. the tailcap is a reverse clicky that comes on after you hear the click...

for tactical operation, turn the bezel to hi mode, click the switch on, then unscrew the tailcap 1/4 turn to turn it off. with slght pressure, you get 140 lumens of light, silently.

I carry a Fenix all the time, but I've found it too unreliable to use as a primary light source. Switch has died twice, and is on its way out again. Fenix initially directed me to the point of sale, but they did not carry Fenix any longer. Fenix then directed me to another of their US retailers who promptly sent me a package with two replacement switches and some o-rings. So the service, while a little strange at first ("Please contact your most honorable person of purchase. Thank you verily."), was good and speedy.

But the light, while fairly durable, just doesn't hold up like a Surefire. I believe the switch design is not very water resistant. The Jetbeam seems to be a similar design to the Fenix, and claims to be waterproof.

I've been happy with the AA LED light I got from Elektrolumens, but he's a smallish shop, don't know his production times.
