XD .40 sights.. Which brand?

I'm tired of repainting the sight. I shoot a lot. I'm looking for perhaps the fiber optic style. I've googled around and not sure which to use. I've heard the sights drift one way only... Any truth in this?
 
I haven't researched it but if Truglo makes the TFO sight for the XD thats what I'd put on it. I have a set on a G23 and love, love, love them. Hope this helps.

I don't have any experience with the fiber optic sights. I put meprolights on my XD & I like them.
It is well worth it to pay someone to do the sight installation on these pistols. Putting the new ones in isn't so bad but getting the old ones out is very difficult at least it was on mine. I did get it done but it took a fair amount of time pounding on a brass punch with a 2 1/2 pound hammer. That got the rear sight out. The front sight I had to cut out. Springfield puts their sights in really tight.
 
I did it myself 3 years ago Mopar. I haven't looked into since. At that time I think folks were charging around $25-30 dollars to change sights. It took me 2-3 hours to get the stock sights out. Of course I did it with the aforementioned 2 1/2 pound hammer, a brass punch, & a hacksaw. The cutting was the most time consuming part. I was trying to get deep enough to relieve the pressure so I could get the sight out without getting into the slide. I did it but it was a hemorrhoid(sp?). There were some threads about this over at XDTalk. You might want to do a search there. I did before I dove into it.
 
I have a set of Tru-Glo TFO sights on my 1911 and like them very much. I am looking into putting a set on my XD 9. Check Natchez Shooting supply, I think they still have them on sale.
 
I have an XDm .40 with the stock sights on it. I have almost 1000 rounds through it at this point and still can't get used to the 'combat sights'. I want to upgrade my sights and make them 6 o'clock sights at the same time. Will the Truglo TFO's or Trijicon night sights do that?
 
My XD9SC was 6o'clock from the factory, and I have not noticed any change from this since the install of the Trijicon's. No experience with the XD40 but would think the same would apply.

FYI: Trijicon's warranty pretty much dictates you have a pro install them.

Just ordered some TFO night sights for mine, will be dropping off the gun this week before I go back to the rig to have them installed. After looking around a bit it seemed to be the best combo for me. I'm sure I'll post once I get them installed.
 
Yeah apparently regular XD's are stock with 6 o'clock sights, XDm's are stock with sights that are point of aim, or 'combat sights' as some people call them. You have to cover the target with the sights, but to me its very arbitrary. I suppose that point of aim sights might be good for close combat, but I am so used to 6 o'clock sights that I can't get used to them.
 
Dawson Precision makes a nice XD fiber optic sight. Be aware removing the original is a bear.

Use the search, I made a thread when I replaced mine a few years ago. Did the XD9 and XD45.
 
Another satisfied customer of HS-XD2000.com.

Had 'em install mine-already had the Trijicon sights, but had I known how much trouble removing OEM's could be I'd have bought the sights from 'em also-originally planned to do it myself.

Sent the slide by USPS Priority Mail ($4.95 box) and took out $200 insurance ($8)-total labor/shipping was $32.95 and nary a scratch etc on the slide.

FWIW, I have a relative that's a gunsmith-he has a SIG sight pusher, but it looked to us like you'd need a second shim to raise the XD slide enough so the pusher would make better contact lower on the rear sight-as tough as some of the XD OEM sights can be to remove, I thought the SIG pusher made contact too high on the sight-I could see it breaking the OEM sight.
Hard to believe it would break the SIG sight pusher, but folks have broken a number of pushers (I assume universal types) trying to remove the OEM XD sights.

I just took the easy route and shipped it off to HS-XD2000.com.

AFA sight recommendations, I was never real happy with night sights in the past-didn't like 'em in light. Somewhere along the line Trijicon musta changed something? Within the last year they look better than I remember 'em being during the day. The also make the front dot bigger/brighter, so my eye is naturally drawn to the front sight at night. Because of the bigger/brighter front sight, I just went with all green-had initially thought 'bout trying the different colors for front/rear.

Got an XDSC9 that came with Trijicons-liked 'em so much I had 'em installed on my old (pre-Melonite) XDSC40.
 
It might be me, but I have a logged 9,000 rounds of training through my poor XD and I can say that either 7 yards, or 25, I line up the sights, and it is on. No 6 o'clock shooting for me... I can't decide to go tritium or FO...
 
It's almost a bit disturbing that this thread has gotten this far without someone asking the OP what exactly the intended use of the sights will be. Home defense? Concealed carry? Competition? Combat?
 
I shoot all types, low level lighting, 3 gun, plink, it is my carry, too many types of shooting for me.... Not just one trick pony...
 
mopar92, I was in the same boat, that's why I got TFOs, I like the look of FO sights and I like the glow of tritium. Best of both worlds, so to speak.
 
Just put trijicon night sights on my hk. Love em. Day or night. Great glow and the white rings helps me with quicker acquisition in the day.
 
Not trying to interrupt or hijack this thread, but could someone explain what you mean by "6 o'clock" sights? Thanks.
 
I made this little illustration. This is how I understand each type of sights, if I am wrong, someone let me know. The guns I have always shot have been 6 o'clock sights, but my XDm sights are the point of aim sights, which I can't quite get used to.

Your 6 o'clock is a little high, isn't it?

Looks to me like both the sights in your illustration are on the high side (as I always interpreted 6 o'clock and POA).
To me, 6 o'clock in the first illustration should have the top of the sight touching the bottom of the red ring. POA in the second illustration (which I prefer) should have the sights bisecting the red ring.
I'd call your first illustration POA instead of 6 o'clock.
