I got an XD-S in .45 for $299 at the LGS a couple months back, and so figured this was coming; the XD-S Mod 2.

I'd have to handle one to see how much the grip is improved, but don't see many other changes?

The changes to the XD were significant to me and caused me to go from not liking 1st gen to owning 3 mod 2's. Probably does same for XDS. However, I feel bad for anyone now coming out with a new sc single stack trying to compete with the new Sig P365 which has a double stack capacity in a single stack. When Sig announced a few weeks ago Springfield probably was like "oh crap"

Changes are minute.
- slide is slightly slimmer
- the beavertail is longer but with thinner sides
- the texture, as you mentioned
- the swappable hump feature is deleted - everyone was using the smallest size anyway
- added a charging shelf on the rear sight, front is Tritium instead of fiber optic

The grip is still unpleasantly long front-to-back. I wish they took a cue from Kahr. It's the only comfortable single stack .45 for me. But I guess there's a part of the mechanism that precludes Chroatians from doing that.

True enough. I guess that's why Springfield started out with the .45 version. SIG has no answer to that. (Well, no answer except "LOL 45")

I have a XDS 9x19 with 3.3" barrel that I am very happy with, I added Talon grips which I think was a big improvement.

I guess we're all different. I use the largest blackstrap and find it to be the only auto of its size to have an acceptably long trigger reach to suit me.

I've been a fan of the xds 9mm since first purchasing one and it has continued to work very well. The xds has less competition in .45 than 9mm but I would consider the Mod.2 in my preferred caliber if it really felt like an improvement. It certainly felt better in the full size models. The Sig p365 could provide some competition if I'm going back in the market however.

I really liked the changes on the Mod 2 . The only pistol that feels better in my hand is a 1911 . They did a good job with the grip zone , I just wish they were not so proud of it that they had to write it on the grip .

If they improved the grip on the XDs Mod 2 I think it will be a winner , I hate the feel of the grip on the Shield , it is just to flat feeling , it needs some rounding IMO .

I agree; the Shield, while not really thinner than the XD-S, is much less comfortable to shoot extensively (mine's a .40.) I keep thinking the rear portion of the grip is too tapered or something. The .45 XD-S is about more comfortable than the .40 Shield, IMHO.

Doesn't interest me one bit, only because I have the Mod 2 in .45 double stack already and it's so small I can't see what a single stack would give me. The ability to conceal carry the standard mod 2 is stellar, and capacity is acceptable. Sacrificing round count is just unnecessary to me.

Only plus on the single stack will be they removed "grip zone" wording on it, but this I can live with.

I've got the .45 (the Mod 1) and I imagine a 10MM would really make an impression-on both ends. :)

Yeah, I have been carrying the same model in warmer weather since they first came out. Great little 45 IMO.

What's changed for me is now I reload, so suddenly 10mm becomes reasonably economical to shoot. So my mind wanders..........

I've considered switching to a Glock 29 for carry, or waiting to see what the polymer 10mm XDM offering will be, and then ditching most of my 9mm and 45s in favor of 10mm. The loading variety and versatility of 10mm allow it to cover all the bases a 9mm or 45 could, and then some.

There are two issues. A 10mm would be lower capacity than my 9mm carry gun, but it would be higher capacity than my XDs 45. If an XDs was offered in 10mm, I would DEFINATELY by one. However, I picture the double stack 3.8 being a better platform that could be beefed up to avoid being beat to death in short order.

The recoil issue I can counteract by loading my own ammo to the levels I find manageable. Nuclear loads would be reserved for my Sig P220.

I like the revisions. The XD(s) Mod 2 features (hopefully deliberately, possibly for simple lack of space) the deletion of the "GRIP ZONE" tomfoolery, and I like the factory night sight option much more than I like the regular 'factory night sights' that are the basic three-dot Trijicon or Meprolight set or (even worse) just luminescent paint. The grip texture is much better.
